Cilento, about two hours south of Naples, has great beaches, ancient temples and good Italian food. It's also Chav-free. June would be better than August as the latter is more expensive and full of Italian holiday makers.

I am thinking about North Cyprus, like you I want to be away from all the tourist/chavvy spots. I have never been North Cyprus, but my driving instructor and local dry cleaner are both from there and go back often, and when I asked my DI if it was very touristy he said its not too bad, yes you get the areas that are geared towards the tourists, but you can easily get away from it all, nothing like the resorts like Marmaris or hisaronu in Turkey, so if anyone on here has been there recently I would also like to know your opinion.

Personally I would say go to any country that you like the sound of, and try and rent a villa that way you wont have the drunk ones bothering you or slamming doors when enerting their room at 2am like you get at the hotels, and you can be as far or as close as you want to the centre (presuming you drive) so you can avoid the touristy places if you really want to
  • anewmans pic cracked me up...lol:rotfl::rotfl:

i have a vision now of hyacinth bouquet off on her hols pulling up on a paddle boat with hat askew then screeching RICHARRRD as her jaw drops in horror at that unlikely trio on the pic:rotfl::rotfl::eek:

the only trouble with north cyprus is there is a lot of the dodgy drink spiking rape/assault type things in kyrenia and local based stabbing etc but no one like to mention it as it puts the tourist off and they are not good with dealing with it .the unfortunate mix of english woman with blonde hair combined with turkish men just does not work!!!!!! however if you are wise enough to avoid the the place at night and are villa based it really is a lovely place though not totally unvisted by the brits:rolleyes:;)

    Oh dear...thats not very good.

I dont think you will ever be totally Brit (or German) free if you are looking at places like Cyprus, Italy, and most of the EU countries, but the odd decent few are not a problem, its the chavvy ones as OP mentioned that can spoil ones holiday.

see i like a cyprus but in the winter....thats my tip:rolleyes: its ideal then as its virtually empty apart from old people anyway or people who live/have family out there so although they are british they are normal lol and not fueled up by cheap all inc plonk ready to fight ya whilst there kids are running loose with severe sunburn:rotfl::rotfl:

How about Mallorca? Before anyone shoots me down in flames, I would clarify that I mean around the north coast of Mallorca, such as Deia and Valdemossa, Soller & Pollensa, NOT Magaluf or Palma Nova (which should be avoided at all costs in my opinion - unless you are under 21!!).

Deia, Valdemossa and Pollensa all attract tourists, but in my experience, those interested in the culture and seeing the "real mallorca" and the beautiful scenery - not the chavvy type!!

The north side of Mallorca is mountainous and very beautiful. Lots of culture and local tapas restaurants to try. Lots of interesting things to see and do. Several small, quiet coves you could walk to for a quiet day on the beach. You could hire a small villa in the countryside and if you avoid the school holidays and go in June you should be able to get somewhere quite reasonably priced.

You'd need to fly in and out of Palma which is easy and it is only 45 mins to 1 hour drive up towards the mountains.

    I hope this helps!

We've used Mallorca Farmhouses for acommodation - lovely villas with pools. Most are quite big villas but they do do some smaller ones.

Fly on a budget airline and hire a car, head in the opposite direction to the big coaches.

Holidays by using a mass produced brochure will probably not be your thing. Go independant.

Even the most expensive places can be booked on a credit card and then defaulted on in years to come or challenged etc so it doesn't stop a lot of people you refer to splashing out on a big trip.

If you don't like a place, move on.

I rented a house in Hungary with some MSE friends and we only saw 2 english people in a week. We went to Lake Balaton on Ryanair from Stansted. House booked on www.houses.hu.
I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
