Not sure exactly what it is you're hoping to avoid or what it is you object to so strongly, but...

Last September we crossed the North Sea by the Harwich-Hook of Holland route and drove south. From the time we left the Hook we didn't see another UK car registration, and the first time we heard another English voice was a week later, at Konstanz. Another tourist, who had driven that far in a camper-van, and he wasn't a person that anyone could take an objection to.

The shores of Bodensee - Friedrichshaven and surroundings - are lovely and deserve to be more visited. Southern Germany, just on the borders of Switzerland and Austria, fabulous scenery, lovely people, great climate - we had a wonderful time.

South east France (not the Riviera, more the coastal route towards Spain) is relatively chav free. We go to Cap d'Agde a lot. Beautiful coast line and mostly French inhabited.

What about Thailand, not the usual resorts like Phuket or Pattaya but the islands, or Hua Hin, or even up to Chiang Mai, more the backpacking fraternity rather than chavs.

we went to Agios Nikolaos in crete last year, it was absolutley beautiful...
The people where so friendly and the place had such a great atmosphere,

There was one british style pub, but this was away from the main resteraunt, bar area, there are not many bars but the ones that are there, are placed around the harbour that is still used for fishing, Lots of things to see and places to visit too

We really enjoyed are time and will certainly be visiting again, But where of to the maldives this year so hopefully that will be Chav free (fingers crossed)

    How about South West France?
We tend to go to Charente, its typical France, you may find a few English speaking people, also English that have moved over to France looking for peace and quiet (def not the loutish kind).
We tend to try and avoid the main touristy places and look for peace and quiet. I LOVE rural France.
If you are interested, i can pm you details of where we stayed.

    Thanks nw_man,
It makes me feel like I am not the only one who feels the way I do! I find it hard sometimes where I feel I have to justify myself to people all the time who look at me like I'm some sort of alien when I tell them I would rather chew off my own hand then do an all-inclusive holiday in a spanish resort full of football hooligans and screaming kids! Im not saying everyone else should hate them too but I prefer to eat good food, lovely surroundings, culture and so travelling outside of my hotel everyday to discover the country I am visiting without cringeing at the amount of beer-sponsorship and 24hr English Cafe's advertised everywhere!

The only prob I now find is the chavved-up holidays are reasonably priced and everywhere else costs a bloody fortune! Argh!

Someone at lunch suggested Morocco might be a good place for what I want without breaking the bank- can anyone shed some light on this destination?.......

    Thanks!

i think you need to be realistic then when you actually book as to which place you want to stop and why!
i have been to cyprus twice and yes there are english people doing english stuff but i hire a car and disappear, i have children but we like archaelogy so cyprus was ideal in that respect, if you dont like over populated beach resorts why didnt you stop in a villa in a village like omodos in the troodos:confused:

if you go to morrocco and end up in agadir chances are you wont like it as there are big hotels run by english operators and there will be english people, same in turkey, spain, greece, italy, egypt, tunisia, carribean etc.

what you need to do is think why you want to visit a country, what attracts you to it then research the big holiday companys.such as thomsons..do they go there? do they have big resorts? etc if they do you may still fancy the idea of that holiday destination but not certain parts of the place....seek a solution by renting a villa or hotel seperately with flights reason being these are generally used by local, business types etc rather than your mainstream english family abroad who like the safety of a package holiday:rolleyes:

for example..corfu is a lovely island..the resort of kavos isnt:eek: maybe renting a villa inland or towards the top of the island would enable you to sample greek life.

spain costas again:eek:....but there are resorts that attract the spanish more or city breaks or again villas enabling a true sampling of living in the real spain.

i personally dont like all the loud bars, footie, egg n chips brigade but ive never been somewhere where this was the only option because i do my research before i go and if i do decide its a lot cheaper to stay at a larger resort i will then use it as a base ad spend my time out of the place anyway.

hope you know what i mean anyway:rotfl:

Best chav free holidays I ever had were - hiring a canal barge on the Canal de Midi in southern France and staying in a small hotel at Lake Como, northern Italy. I simply wouldn't consider anywhere that had a Brit pub/chips with everything influence! :D
