  • Item has now been removed from website as they no longer sell it. Customer services have told me firstly that my order has been cancelled. This surprised me as I had just received an email saying it had been despatched. Another customer service bod said my order is safe so you work it out. You never know it might actually appear.

I made an earlier post about this; I have a Philips DVD player over 3 years old. The picture quality is excellent, but it's very fussy over what it will play. I got one of these Skyworth DVD players in Manchester this afternoon. I set it up and have just watched 'Open Water' on it (not a good film!) I have an excellent telly, a JVC widescreen and I'm happy with it. My Skyworth plays anything and I'vgot no problems with it unlike others who have posted comments here.......but it's going back to WHSmiths. Why? Because the picture quality is poor. I know I shouldn't expect much for £30 that's true. But I might as well use my £30 as a start to save up for something better. My Philips knocks this into a cocked hat. If you've never had a dvd player before I'd say get one because it's cheap and in a couple of years time we'll all be wanting players that offer Blu-Ray, HD-DVD and HDMI. High definition is only round the corner and I for one can't wait. Anybody out there want this Skyworth?

the picture quality on this machine is good if you don't use the cheap scart lead that comes with the machine.

I like you was going to return but thought I would try a differant scart and the improvement in both sound and picture was amazing!!

The only downside as far as I am concerned is on zoom function the OSD stays on so you always have 2x or whatever dispalyed in the corner for when you use it.

I used my own scart on this which is a good quality one. The picture was still not that good. It's going back.

I was in Sainsburys the other night and they had a machine in at the same price, £29.99 which looked interesting. Made by Cello it didn't have the karaoke function but it was similar to the Skyworth in that it looked like it'd play anything; had the Jpeg viewer and amazingly at this price had progressive scan! I looked for reviews/information on this but found nothing. If anyone out there has one let us know what it's like please!

    .

Push the 'OSD' button (below the on/off button) 3 times & the display goes off.
    Nice to save.
