You dont have to notify your existing supplier when you change your cps supplier.New supplier and BT do all the work. But it doesnt do any harm if you do so. But you should not cancel your D/D until you have had your final bill, because they will normally charge you extra for non D/D payment.

Thanks. That's exactly the way I am playing it. I still have £3 or £4 left on my initial credit for joining online, (taking into account this months usage), so it's unlikely that I will owe them anything, but I am not cancelling my direct debit until the final bill is produced as I do not want the "Do you realise you have cancelled your direct debit?" letter.

That's a very good point. Don't know why it did not click with me earlier. Seems to me if what you are saying is true will mean that most of us will just build up a lot of useless credit, as outside of the free evening and weekend periods we will all be using 1899 etc. Well picked up on!:money:
There is a way of "fencing" this credit, although you'll only get back 40% of its nominal worth. If you have a revenue-share 0870 number you can get 3p/minute from some providers for daytime calls. Route the calls to a Sipgate (VOIP) number that you answer on your PC. When you accumulate excess credit, call the 0870 number at Primus' daytime NGN rate (7.5p/min). If you make no other chargeable calls via Primus it will bring you around £2 per month in cash.

Alternatively, you could save the credit for calling the NGN numbers for which there's no geographical alternative..

Thanks for the advice. I'm rather hoping that DiscountDial's number will work with Primus ie 08448289090.

Alternatively, I could use up some of it when I make a short call (I do make quite a lot of calls that last less than 2 mins). So it will only cost marginally more than 1899, and therefore I will get most of the true value out of it.
  • Can I just check that I have read the information correctly?

I have signed up to Primus 2 via Uswitch and, sure enough, the £5 rebate is still on offer today. However, as I read the info., does this mean that I must pay my line rental to BT or can I be really greedy and sign up for the Post Office offer, aswell?

As you would be signing up for line rental with the Post Office, no.
  • The offer from Uswitch with an extra £5 rebate per month is now finished. Read Martin's Home Phones article for the latest recommendations.

As MSE Archna says above, the £5/month 'loyalty rebate' for signing up for one of the Primus Freetalk packages via the Uswitch comparison site has now ended (and none of those packages now come up regardless of what 'use' or payment method you enter).

BUT, Primus Saver Option 2 (free E&W UK 01.../02... calls for a monthly subscription of £0.00) is now available again via the Uswitch comparison site.

However, at least 2 of the 'cashback' sites are offering £7.50/£8 back if you access the Uswitch website via a link from their sites. Search 'em out.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Cheapest calls now seem to be 6.3p via, I think, Cheapestdial or 6p via Teletop inc 5p connection fee. They are 0907 & 0911 numbers so if when I revert to Primus and you can only dial 01 and 02 numbers through them should I switch back to BT 1280 to dial this number?

I can confirm that this is happening via Quidco - Uswitch- primus 2. Ive got a nice little £8 tracking from that from Saturday.

Anyone know if its instant. Ive had an email from uswitch, but nothing from Primus, if I make calls now ( ordered on Sat PM) will they be via Primus or not?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
