    Thanks for the reply.

So how long do you think I should wait after the service has actually started before I ring up and ask to be upgraded to Option 2? A few weeks?

Also, I cannot seem to find a link for Quidco. If I went through Quidco would I get extra from them as well as the USwitch £60?

It appears to me that the free calls package offered directly by Primus is different to the one offered via uswitch

The one available direct through Primus is called.....

    Saver 2

The one offered through uswitch is called.....

    Primus Freetalk Plus 2

I think I'm correct in saying that the package that uswitch are offering includes free calls to other Primus Freetalk Plus customers all the times but Saver 2 does not.

Can anyone confirm this? I know it probably won't matter to most of you but in my case both myself and the two people I call on a daily basis have moved over to Primus Freetalk Plus 1 (free local/national calls at w/end and free calls to other Primus Freetalk customers at all times) in order to enable us to call each other whenever we like free of charge with the deal clincher being the £5 monthly loyalty bonus.

Now it seems that people are suggesting I could ring up Primus and 'upgrade' to their free calls after 6pm weekdays package at no monthly cost and yet not loose the benefits I got through signing up in the first place via uswitch (ie the £60 cashback)

Also, if I were to ring up and ask to be upgraded I think I'd be forfeiting the free calls to other Primus customers perk.

Has anyone got any knowledge of this?

    Hi canny-mal

Yes it does say on uswitch when you look at plan benefits that you can call other primus customers at any time free of charge. Copied from site below

    Plan benefits

Sign up in March and receive a £5 monthly loyalty bonus, paid quarterly in £15 installments, for the first 12 months
Calls to other Primus Freetalk customers are free at all times
Free evening & weekend calls to landlines for £2.99 a month
Primus Freetalk loyalty bonus available to new customers only
See 'Special offer policy' tab for more information on uSwitch's offer inclusion criteria.

Uswitch plan suggested I go on the Primus FreeTalk 3 option but I can't see anybody on the site doing that. We make lots of calls because OH works part time from home. Is there any reason why people haven't gone onto this option other than it costs £8.49 per month? Thanks.

You have to realise that it has recently come to light that Uswitch is not as independent as was thought and that you also have to be a little 'creative' with the information you enter.

The £8.49 cost would pay for 283 calls to UK 01/02 numbers at 3p each via 1899 so you have to make a judgement whether you make that many calls weekday daytime each month, every month (even when you're away on holiday) and if the cost is justified.

However, bbb_uk has changed to that option because the £5/month 'loyalty bonus' effectively makes the cost £3.49 (116 calls on 1899) for the first 12 months.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I've switched to option 1 via Uswitch and just got an e-mail from Primus re e-billing activation. It seems that I can have paper billing or e-billing but not both.

    Hi,

Switched to PRIMUS FT2 at start of March via Uswitch. Had problems getting response to e-mails but went straight to site and used the contact/query sheet there and had a response to the same query in 15 mins.

    For info.

    1) will BT 1571 and 1471 work on PRIMUS and will my Caller ID show up (I have previously had it turned off at the switchboard).

"When using Primus Telecommunications Ltd all of your calls are firstly routed through a switchboard which means that your number is never displayed either with caller ID's; or any other form identification device." BT services 1571 and 1471 will remain available."

(BUT did not make it clear how much it would cost to call them ? - if I did 1280 1571 would that then be free via BT ?)

    2) Cost of 0845 numbers

    "All of your off peak calls are free to all UK landlines, peak time calls are charged at 2p per minute, there is a monthly tariff charge of £2.99 per month. NGN numbers are as follows;

    0844 & 0845 numbers

Weekend 0.99 pence per minute (just under 1p)
Evening 1.48 pence per minute (just under 1.5p)
Day 3.9 pence per minute (just under 4p)

    0871 & 0870 numbers

Weekend 1.99 pence per minute (just under 2p)
Evening 3.94 pence per minute (just under 4p)
Day 7.9 pence per minute (just under 8p)"

They also confirmed that all calls to Primus Freetalk/Planet-talk customers would be free at all times.

(I currently use 0845 internet dial up via 1280 & Friends and Family discount at 20% - is PRIMUS cheaper than this ?) - and no I dont want broadband ! :o

    2) Is the PRIMUS £5 monthly discount via Uswitch in addition to the £5 monthly discount detailed in the T&Cs for people paying by DD.

"The £5 monthly loyalty bonus will be paid on top of any bonuses that are due to be applied. This will be paid to you in £15 instalments every quarter."

This seems to be a deduction of £10 per month - against charges of £2.99. I have searched the forum and nobody else seems to have mentioned this... am I missing something ?

They're certainly going to be losing money on some of the 0844 and 0871 calls they carry at those prices (some 0844 numbers are 5p/minute at all tmes and some 0871 numbers are 10p/minute at all times).

I'm not so sure about the 0844 numbers. Seems a bit too generalised when we all know that different 0844 numbers charge different rates.

If it is true, Discountdial is by far the cheapest to use for calling mobiles. A lot cheaper than 18185 (even before the connection charge with 18185 is taken into account), but I am still sceptical about the generalisation of the tariffs.

Normally, one could make a couple of experimental calls, and know within hours if it is correct, but Primus do not do show unbilled calls:(
