  • I've just ordered a new phone so will have one to send for recycling once my new one arrives. Fonebank are offering £16 (according to mobilevaluer.com) which is only £1.10 less than the top price (with a company who seem to have very poor feedback on mse).

I thought I'd request an envelope as I can't send my old phone until new one arrives. Any idea how long this takes? Do they guarantee to pay you the currently quoted price, even if it's gone down by the time you send the phone? Also, do you need to send in charger, box, battery etc, or just phone? If battery, does it matter if it's not charged?

This is the first time I've sent an old mobile for recycling so lots of questions!

  • You'll find most of your questions answered on their website, but no you don't need to send any batteries, chargers etc, just the phone. It needs to be fully charged so they can test it. Remember to delete all personal data/photos etc, and restore it to factory settings if you can.

IIRC their price they quote is valid for around 30 days.

Sent my phone last week by Special Delivery, had email to say they received it the following day and the cheque arrived 2 days later.

    Excellent service!

Thanks to everyone for their posts, I wouldn't have tried the service otherwise :)

Stupid question but how can a phone be fully charged if you don't need to send the battery?
  • Ive just been on the comparison sites and have found that Fonebank are offering the most for my old Samsung mobile. I've only ever dealt with Envirofone before and have never had any problems receiving my cheques, despite never charging my phones. I'm slightly dubious now to send this phone off to Fonebank after reading some of the posts regarding fully charged batteries, as i have lost my charger...i know the phone was working when i last used it...any suggestions???!!! x :undecided
  • I used the mobilevaluer and the phonerecyclebank was the best price. I registered and received the envelope within 2 days. Posted my phone back and haven't heard a single thing for a month. They have ignored 3 emails and none of the numbers on the website work.

    My questions are :
Has anyone else had any problems with this company?

Are they regulated by anyone that I could complain too?

    Thanks
  • complete rubbish sent phones got cheque 2 days later but both cheques have bounced now i cant get hold of anyone from there company with answers as im now money down and 2 mobile phones not happy!! this has been 2 weeks now!
  • Hmm ... it does seem the best feedback (almost exclusively) is from 1st time posters, so I'm not sure what to do! If I have to pay to register the delivery, then that is cutting into my profit -I usually just ask for proof-of-posting from the Post Office, which is free - so, if there are more users of this site, that have a good history of posting and have experience of this company, it would be good to hear from you. (I also think if the 'phone has to be charged, the company must be looking for any excuse not to pay full amount, so probably best to only send ones in good working order?)
  • I decided to get rid of two old mobiles, Nokia 6220 Classic and Nokia 6300, which were working but just gathering dust.

It was easy to sign up with Fonebank online. I decided to drop the phones off to their office (5 mins from Russell Square tube station) as I was in the area.

I got a receipt for the two phones and my cheque followed two days later. An excellent and efficient service.

I got a good price for the two phones as well (Nokia 6220 Classic = £66, Nokia 6300 = £33).

Would definitely use again and will be recommending to friends.
  • I've used Fonebank several times, for me and on the behalf of my husband.

I could not fault their service - we posted phones off by Special Delivery (as were quite decent phones), and received our cheques within 2 working days of them receiving the phones.

It couldn't have been much better.

Can't help but notice a few first time posters above, either completely raving about fonebank or being very negative. I can't help but smell a troll... lol
