Scam company, wish i read the comments on the net in more detail!

g/f sent her perfectly fine working HTC hero off to them. Suppose to get £64 via BACS.

Couple days later got an e-mail saying the phone has been inspected and got water damage and now they are paying £11 (its worked fine and apart from some normal wear) Never been anywhere near water.

They want £10 to send it back so kinda cant do anything now, seems there are alot of people on the net been scammed the same way, AVOID AND ALL COSTS!
  • I was another one who'd not bothered looking on here before sending my phone off to Mobile Phone Xchange. Having done the comparison on this site MPX were by far the highest. I had an iPhone 3G 16GB and they were offering £128 if I took the money in Debenhams vouchers (15% more than cash). I'm off on holiday soon, so needed to get some things from Debenhams so thought this was a great deal.

I sent off my phone in their jiffy bag - I'd polished it up and wrapped it carefully in more bubble wrap and sent it Special Delivery (phew!)

A couple of days later I got an email, with the following message:

    "Touchscreen has heavy scratching"
(this lead me to do research on this site!!!)

I sent an email straight back to say they had made a mistake and could they recheck the handset, as my phone was in A1 condition. No reply. So I emailed again saying I rejected the price offered, before my 3 days were up. Still no reply.

So on Monday I called them, via the number on their website and they answered straight away. The man on the phone (Paul) was really helpful. He explained that the phones were in a different office to him so he couldn't check, but he was sure it was mine. He said the engineers checking the phones had been particularly harsh and he was willing to move the price. First he offered me £106, I said I wasn't happy with this, so he upped the price to £110.

I was quite happy with this as O2 had offered me £92 for my handset and the other companies were around the same amount, so I accepted and he said my gift card would be credited the following day. He was apologetic and sorted the issue quickly.

If I'd read the comments on this site, then I wouldn't have sent my phone off to MPX, but all in all I'm quite pleased with the outcome. Although I didn't get the original price quoted, it was still competitive and they were able to sort my query out quickly.
:wink:Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves!
  • On the 20th August I went through moneysavingexpert.com to compare prices for phones, It was an immaculate HTC Desire. Mobile Phone Exchange came up on top offering £141, so I went ahead requested a bag and was very happy with that price. The bag arrived on the 28th so I sent the phone away at my own cost by Special Delivery, they received this on the 30th, I waited for their email to confirm receipt and when the money was to be released but it never came, I checked their website and found out they had down valued my phone due to 'severe screen scratches' and the price was now £92. I tried to call them as I was very unhappy with this as the phone was immaculate and has been well looked after and even had a screeen protector on (still on when I sent the phone), they were closed so I had to wait until Monday to speak to someone, I spoke to someone and advised them of the screen protector and I requested the phone back or for it to be reinspected but their response was the phone was no longer there and there was nothing I could do as 3 days had passed since inspection. On their website it states very clearly 'our 100% peace of mind guarantee, we will return the phone for free if you are not happy with our service'. This is a lie, it would have cost £10 but I have not been able at all to get my phone back. I have had to report this company to trading Standards as their T&C's contradict almost everything that they state on their website. I know for sure that their was nothing wrong with the phone so it was wrongly down valued yet I have no comeback as the phone has now disappeared as I was informed by their very rude staff.

I would not reccommend this site to anyone as I 100% believe I was ripped off.
  • I sent my iphone 3g 8gb to Mobile phone Exchange last week after the website had valued it a £111 (in Debenhams vouchers). It was sent on Friday by Special Delivery and signed for early monday morning. This is where things started to go wrong. By Tuesday afternoon I had not received any indication that they had the phone so I called and they said that sometimes they take a while to get into the system. At about 2345 that night I got an email saying that they hadn't received my phone and that I could order a new envelope if needed. I waited up the next morning to call them (I work nights) and told them that I had the proof of delivery in front of me. They said that they would find the phone and process the order.
I woke up today to an email asking for the IMEI number of the phone???????????? I assumed by this that they had lost my phone and possibly had more than one that they couldn't link to a customer. Now they were really starting to annoy me so I prepared myself for an arguement. Before I could call I got another email stating that my phone had been found and due to damage was only valued at £16. This really got my back up and after speaking to a customer service person and telling him it was in perfect working order when it left me I was offered £38.
Needless to say that I told them to send it back and as I wasn't accepting the valuation of what was a perfectly working phone 2 weeks ago. I just hope that I can get my money either from the post office via insurance or mobile phone exchange if indeed there is anything wrong with it.
IF YOU USE THIS COMPANY MAKE SURE THAT YOU VIDEO OR PHOTOGRAPH THE PHONE SO YOU HAVE A RECORD OF IT WORKING. THEY ARE INCOMPETENT.

Having used other companies in the past RPC were a breath of fresh air, online tracking processed same day received with email updates and payment received in account 2 days after they got the phone - will definitely recommend.
  • I recently used the Mobile Phone Xchange for the first time and was very disappointed. I was quoted £34 in Argos vouchers but only received £15. Their reason was because the touch screen was heavily scratched. The screen was only in 'used' condition and it had a few scratches which is what you expect for a 2 year old phone. In the past I have used Mazuma and Envirofone and handed over phones in similar conditions with no accessories (which MPX wanted) and received the full amount quoted every time. I chose MPX this time because they quoted £10 more than the rest. I also paid £5.90 for special delivery after the advice sent by MPX- how stupid am I!!!
    Lesson learnt!
My advice - Go with Mazuma or Envirofone- they might not offer as much, but from my experience, you get what you're offered. And I sent them freepost and had no problems.
Why I was convinced otherwise this time is a mystery!

Special delivery is a waste of money. Get a certificate of posting (it's free) - Royal Mail will pay up to £42 if lost/undelivered.

    Not for mobiles.
  • Not for mobiles.

Better tell Royal Mail that; they paid me when one went missing in their system and it's in ther t&c!
  • Sadly, I am joining the list of people "done over" by this company. I phone 3GS 16GB valued at £121. Just received the email this morning saying they have revalued it, because of a small crack, to £54. This phone was perfect when it left me, wrapped in bubble wrap, and put in a small cardboard box. I took photographs of its perfect condition before I sent it. It could not possibly have been damaged in transit. I asked for it to be sent back but.... I obviously have to pay £10 for the privilege of getting my own property back. I have told them that if, when it does come back, it is in any way damaged, cracked, broken or otherwise I will be reporting them to Trading Standards.

PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!
