Don't use them!! They put high prices such as £73 for a Nokia E72 to beat the comparison sites, but then they say stupid reasons like "there was a delay receiving your phone" even though I was waiting for their envelope, so the price is reduced to £63. For another phone they said it had water damage, which it didn't!! They don't respond to emails. The phone number is high call costs, and if you want your phone returned there's a £10 charge! I will never use or recommend them again!
  • I can echo last few comments.
They seem to place a high quote to draw you in, then when they have your phone, tell you its worth much less due to scratches (in my Daughters case - and the phone was virtually unmarked).
They tell you if they do not hear from you in three days, they'll assume you accept the price, then won't reply to e mails and you can't get through on the phone number given, or you just click onto hold and then get cut off.
If you want phone back, you have to send them £10 - in small print apparently!!
When threatened legal action on a furhter e mail, suddenly got reply saying they would up the offer. Still £10 less than quoted, but by then you are caught over a barrel so have little choice but to accept.
Its a scam! Lets see if money actually arrives - fingers crossed!

I follwed the process with these people as the offered the most cash back for my Phone. £50.
I was sent a pre-paid (if i wanted freepost with no cover) label and a jiffy bag.
As this offered no cover or tracking & I had read the threads to say they were 'issues' with missing goods- I paid for recorder delivery- £1.77.
I recieved an email each day after I put my details on the site to say they were still waiting (fairly annoying!) and finally an email today 20th (i posted the good Thursday 16th) to say the phone had been recieved.
Also included in the email was a 'revised offer' price that they were only paying me £29 for the hadset due to 'excessive scratching' to the screen.
I called the number on the letter and after 18 minutes on hold I spoke to an 'advisor', Matthew, who said he would ask the manager to revise the offer- he came back with £34! He was quite abrupt and sounded a bit dense to be honest.
I told him to send the handset back as I was quite annoyed to be quoted one prices & offered a far lower amount- I can get a better price at my local market I've now realised.
I was then told an 'admin' fee is payable to do this- what a rip off!!!!!!
I'm quite loathed to pay the £10 (which covers postage and packing apparently!) however I am not happy to accept the lower amount when I know I can get a higher price elsewhere.

    My advice- don't use them!!!!

Can anyone send me the email address of this company please, I sent my HTC wildfire as new hardly used coz i am thick!!!!! was quoted £94 recieved cheque today for £73 with no explanation as to why. I noticed some one has said it cost them £5 for the call to this company, seems to me most of us are loosers were they are concerned they seem to be ripping most of us off. Thanks in advance.
  • I'm in the process of using this company at the moment for a Nokia 5800 ExpressMusic handset that their website had initially quoted me £53 in cash (via PayPal). I received an email this morning informing me that MPE had received my phone but would now be offering me £26 (a reduction of over 50%!) for it due to "Touchscreen has heavy scratching". This is complete rubbish - if anything there is one minor scratch but using this reason to reduce their offer by £27 is ridiculous. I have sent an email requesting the return of my phone. I did so before reading this forum but I think that, even despite this £10 administration and P&P fee, I will still demand it back. I refuse to give them my custom.

Sadly, another case of wishing I'd read this feedback prior to using the company!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I used the valuer (not the same one now) to find the value of my old Nokia E51 with camera and I marked it as "not working". This was because the on/off button was almost off. It did work - powered up perfectly and was in immaculate condition, but because of the on/off switch (a common fault), I decided to get another phone.

The valuer said the phone was worth £19 in Argos vouchers - I thought I would go for them as I could just save them towards something. I sent the phone off to them and got an e-mail the next day saying the phone had been received and because it was "not working" they reduced the value to £4! It then said, "the vouchers will be with you by 22 June".

I thought this was a con so I tried to contact them by telephone as you cannot use the e-mail to reply. I tried them for days by telephone but couldn't get an answer. I figured (through gritted teeth) that I would have to chalk it down to experience and wait for the voucher.

Today I am still waiting (6 July) so I tried ringing them again. Surprise the phone was answered and I spoke to a woman. She told me that they do not accept "not working" phones - strange as it popped up on the valuer and they had accepted it. She said I shouldn't use a valuer but go straight to their site which had the true values on.

Needless to say I couldn't get anywhere with this so asked where my vouchers were. She said they hadn't been actioned and that I had to remember they received a lot of phones. I said I did remember this but she had to remember that customers want their money for the phones. She said she has actioned it immediately and I will get it tomorrow. We shall see.

All in all a bad experience. I think they are scammers, untrustworthy and I certainly won't be using them ever again.
  • This company consistently come up with the highest value for your mobile phone but that is only so you send your phone to them, after that they rip you off.

Many people on this forum have had the same experience as I recently had...they offered me £65 for my working phone, when they recieved it they told me I would only get £30 due to 'heavy scratching of the screen' which was NOT the case, there were very minor marks on the screen. I told them I disagreed with that and that I wanted my phone back as per their front page statement about being 100% happy with their service or they will return the phone free of charge. I have heard nothing from them since and have recieved no payment.

I have reported this company to Trading Standards but really wish I had read these reviews before and not after the event!

I recently sent my phone to this company as, like everybody else, they offered me the highest price for my handset when using the comparison tool. I was offered £54 for a fully working Nokia N97 Mini, which I'd had for almost 2 years but decided to sell after taking out a new contract at the beginning of the month. After sending my phone I received an email today to say that I would be receiving £8 for the phone due to water damage and scratching, which is a complete lie as I've had no problems with it in almost 2 years! I tried to call but all I got was a recorded message to say the office was closed so I sent an email instead (before checking the feedback on the company :() demanding they either pay the original price quoted or return the handset to me. I've only just read the feedback and am livid with the fact that I will be charged £10 to return a phone that, according to these scammers, is only worth £8, and they were the ones that used false advertisement to draw in customers so that we didn't send our goods to another company willing to pay a fair price. Has anybody found a way of getting around the £10 "administration fee" or have it reduced? I am going to consumers advice about the company tomorrow and willl write another post if I find a way to get it back cheaper. bottom line, Mobile Phone Xchange is a disgrace and I wouldn't recommend them to a rat!!
