  • Hi all,
My husband telephone Natwest on Tuesday concerning the £418 charges we have incurred in 2 weeks.
We were advised to contact the branch manager of our local branch which we did on Tuesday and wrote her a letter.
They offered us a full and final settlement figure of £266 which is totally inadequate and we have written back saying it's £418 or it will go to the small claims court and we've asked them to repsond in 7 days, so fingers crossed!

  • Yes Jo, we have.
We're taking it further because they did, in the same letter offer us £266, just keep on at them, as we are and go through moneyclaim if you have to.

  • Hi,

    HELP!!!
It is partially my fault as i did not have enough to cover a standing order.
My account was about £3.00 short to cover the money going out but they charged me £39. Since then it has had a snow ball effect.... unpaid direct debits/cheques and more charges have just taken my account further and further into the red. As a result they keep charging more and more.

I received charges on my account totalling around £370 in the past 4-5 weeks.

I have to admit, i have already claimed some bank charges back from my bank about 6 months ago which was £280. What i would like to know is, Am i still within my rights to threaten court action again the same as i did before?

    Regards
    Rick

It would be worth your while to check out the past 6 years on your account. Sounds like you have been ripped off big time. You can get all the help and advice you need free on consumer corner.co. uk They are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

    Good luck

I have just had a letter from the bank manager saying how terribly sorry he was for causing such inconvenience and they have fully refunded all their charges and if I have any further questions to call him on his direct line. It took about 2 months in total and 3 letters.
Moral: dont take no for an answer and dont settle for anything less than a full refund.

    Thanks for your reply.

Ive already been on the phone to the Halifax over the past few days trying to get them to refund before i send a court action letter and they got very snotty with me telling me i don't know what I'm taking about and Ive got all my facts wrong & even threatened to put the phone down on me!

They also threatened to close my account but i have another one so im not to bothered.

They try to make you believe that this website is full of nonsense. I asked them how many times they have actually been to court to defend themselves from a customer claiming there bank charges back but they couldn't answer.

When i claimed my charges back last time i signed a form saying "all further charges will stand" After signing this form can i still claim the charged or do they have me over a barrel, so to speak?

  • Hi BettyB
We've been OK for the previous 6 years, no charges on any accounts.

  • This all sounds great but I, I guess like most people who have incurred charges, have no records of these charges. I have paid hundereds over the last few years for late payment charges, exceeding overdraft etc but do not have my statements

I would be looking to reclaim from Natwest bank, Natwest credit card, barclay card and barclays bank but I guess I can't reclaim if I don't know how much?
