it looks like they have charged you business rates on it. In theory they cannot do this on a personal account but you are not supposed to run a business through a personal account either, it looks like they have twigged on. But they should have asked you to open a business account. i would open one anyway as they will be charging you for every transaction personal or business0 -
For whoever is out there, a big thankyou for helping, This is a business Sole Trader account. I am not being clear. It is personal in that a Sole Trader is not a company. Can they legally charge a commission on doing business with me as my banker?0

Part 3 of the step by step guide in Martin's article tells you to refuse and wait for their next move. If they don't offer you a full refund or nearer to what you would want to accept then you can go on to the next stage.
c.) You will be offered a partial refund (refuse this - the money is legally yours - note we are not claiming for the extra interest incurred on overdrafts - this more than covers their costs, so don't start to feel sorry for them). You will receive a letter offering a full refund next.0 -
After taking 4 days to 'process' an on-line funds transfer, Lloyds charged me £35 for returning a DD, as they said payment would have resulted in my exceeding my o/d limit.
Having complained in writing, they refunded me the fee. They still have not given me any expanation of why on-line transfers take 4 days - I am pushing for a reply.
However, what I also found that they had also charged me £30 for an Excess O/D fee, even though (with DD returned) teh limit was not exceeded.
So, beware, you may find that your banks are actually 'fining' you £65 or more for an unpaid DD!
Users may be interested to know that I have now claimed back 3 years worth of charges.
I have also, citing the Data Protection Act, requested a copy of the recorded conversation with Lloyds call centre yesterday, where the rep confirmed quite clearly that the return fees and O/D charges were most definitely penalties. 'Common knowledge' is what he said.
Good ammunition if this ever gets to court...0 -
Our Halifax claim is just getting underway... both I and OH are their customers.
I contacted them today as they sent 6yrs statements through but they didnt include any kind of reference to exactly what each of the charges were for.
The chap I spoke to said 'we don't archive the charge letters for more than a year...' I asked him how they'll defend their charges when I take them to court... he said 'erm, it doesnt normally get to court..' I said 'thats because you settle?' ... he paused then said 'yes, thats what Ive heard'halifax

Are the £100 charges recent or does she have more charges dating back over the past 6 years (5 years in Scotland) that she can make a claim on?
