Claim back any unfair bank charges! Article Discussion Area

Hello there, and thanks in advance if someone can take the time to answer my questions. My dad has told me about this idea, which could potentially help me out considerably with my financial problems.
I have a Lloyds account that I opened about 7 years ago as a student account, and have often fallen foul of overdraft excess fees, many times in my final year continuing to get cashback when i knew i was over the limit. As a result, i would be owed a considerable amount of money if this could work for me.
Having read the articles and as many posts as i could, i have not cleared up a key question - my bank has now closed my account (about 6 months ago) due to my being unable to bring the overdraft back under the limit. I am currently repaying at a rate of £150 per month the amount owed. If i could get charges refunded, i would probably be able to repay the remaining amount and some. Can i still make the claim despite the fact that the account was closed for that precise reason.
Additionally, I should mention that I do not currently have any other account as I am paid in cash by my employer. Would that be relevant (and whilst i'm here - is there a likelihood of my being able to open a new account elsewhere, given that this is the 2nd account i've had closed?)
Any advice would be greatefully received.0 -
You can definitely claim! Most people like to have another account in place before embarking on this journey, but you aren't actually using a bank at the moment so maybe you don't need an account while you remain in the cash job.
i don't know whether you'd have trouble opening an account. i'd be tempted to find out by trying to!0 -

Are Abbey notoriously bad at refunding charges?
I've just read through the "success stories" thread and there aren't many for Abbey and the ones which are there tell stories of difficulties...
I ask because once I've received my back-dated statements I'm likely to be putting forward a hefty claim and want to make sure I do it right and that it's worth my trouble.
Thanks in advance everyone.0 -

Hi, Abbey are among one of the more time wasting of the banks but they still pay up in the end, its just a set routine, on member on https://www.!!!!!!.uk/forum is claiming close to £20,000 from them on 2 accounts. and they have just slipped up. (not that it would have mattered to much if they hadnt) its always worth it as its your money. go to the above site for all the help you need.0 -
Thanks very much Shaun1977. It narks me to think that Abbey have taken so much money from me over the years in charges yet they're not actually entitled to it. Grrr. I want my money back!!! (o;0
