Claim back any unfair bank charges! Article Discussion Area

dixie06 wrote:Hi just a bit of advice required. I sucessfully claimed back over £1000 worth of charges from HSBC on a open account a month ago. I have since claimed 6 years of charges from HSBC using letters 1 and 2 and they have basically said no go away!! I can either go to court with it or I have another plan! On my claim I only included charges over £12 but am lead to believe that any charge such as a £10 charge for card mis-use is still considered a penalty charge if this is the case do I proceed with my current claim or leave it a couple of weeks and claim again including over £300 of extra penalty charges I have found? Although I would probably settle now if the option was there but if I have to take it to court would rather do it for a worthwile amount and these extra charges would take the claim to £2100.
Any advice anyone??
go straight to court for £2100, they have proven they will not pay a small ammount under the oft guidelines so they will not pay that amount without a fight.0 -
mmmmmmmmm interesting. i agree with Shaun in principle, but i'd probably send them the letters in the usual succession as otherwise it might look like you were moving the goalposts!0

just one letter would suffice giving them 7 days, and no further warnings explaining why the increase in ammount. i woul be happy to write this for you if you would rather go that way0

Hi All
Just sat and gone throught 6 yrs of natwest bank statements..total of £1398!
Was just a bit confused about a few things
1. What interest do we add to this figure?
2. Do we send the initial letter to our local branch where our account is or to head office?
3. Is it all as simple as it sounds- I'm a pretty sceptical that getting this money bank sounds too good to be true & that easy
Many Thanks0 -

hi, the interest depends on the circumstances, but not usually any until court unless your overraft is made up entirely of charges. the initial letter is sent to the local branch, and yes it is that simple, just a few letters and a bit of calculating. all the letters and advice you need is at www.!!!!!!.uk i will gladly guide you through the interest part over there with the spreadsheets0 -

thank you for the kind words, i have been in such a mess myself over the years that i really do understand what people go through, when i finally had enough and decided to stand up and fight back, it was such a relief to get control again and have the boot on the other foot.
it is only right that people have the support to stand up to organisations that have only money on there mind and not there customers interest. very few companies now a days have any morals. and it is spiralling out of control, as a knock on effect.
whoops just fell of my soap box.:D0 -
MortgageMamma wrote:Ok, so I thought I'd be a smart !!!! and have a go at Halifax for £970 of bank charges. followed procedures religously and lodged a claim on 31st August which has been deemed as sent on 5th September. Today got a letter from Northampton County Court saying Halifax had acknowledged the claim and intended to defend it and would lodge their defence within 28 days. I am absolutely
Not being a confrontational person the thought of a court hearing with a halifax legal eagle terrifies me
Can anyone tell me if they have had the same happen to them and if so what happened after this?
Very pleased to be able to tell you this:
My mum got the letter last week saying they intended to defend the claim but then, today she got the whole amount including interest and court charges refunded into their bank account (£4000 odd) So hang in there and dont worry, they WILL pay!!!
