    Folks :-
My stepsons finances are a mess. I'm trying to sort them out and have noted the absurd amount he's been paying in bank charges, so I'm going to try and claim them back. I've written to the bank and got six years worth of statements.

I note that he sometimes get charged £10 (£7.50 and £9.50 previously) for having an additions account. When he moved from a child account apparently he was given this account. The 'advantage' of additions is free breakdown insurance (he didn't have a car until recently), free will writing service (he doesn't have any dependants or money to leave) and ...? Is it worth trying to claim that money back from the bank?

No as that charge was for a service. Just cancel it so you dont pay it in future.

i just called the court as i have not heard anything since i filled in the the questionaire.
just been informed that the case notes were given to the judge last week and he will now decided on a court date should get a letter this week stating a date if he has allowed it into court or not.
is this what has happened to everyone?

i also had a call from lloyds debt dept on saturday saying i was overdrawn by £1080 they have now removed my overdraft, i am only claiming £750 what if they ask me to pay it all back i dont have the money to do that?

Have just written to request all of my statements over the last 6 years and am about to post it, but, am worried to death about them closing my account!! .

    Hi!
Before I even started to claim charges back from Barclays on behalf of my stepson I got him to open an account with firstdirect. Given his track record I was amazed they accepted him and I believe they even gave him £50. On top of that if you open the account via quidco you can get £45 via them.

Whether first direct will let you have a £3000 overdraft limit I don't know (the account automatically comes with a £500 overdraft limit), but I've banked with them for a few years and have been pretty happy with them which is why I got stepson to move.

You will note my recent posting saying barclays want to cancel the account and that may be prompted by my asking for the last six years worth of statements.

    I hope that helps

  • I wondered if anyone know whether trying to claim back bank charges would affect the DMP I have with the CCCS. It's for just shy of £40k and I think about £7 - £10k of that would be charges, aminly from Natwest and Credit Cards. All the cards and accounts that I owe money on are defaulted as standrad with a repayment plan, does this mean I have waived my right to challengs the charges?

    Thanks

Thanks inmypocketnottheirs. Have copied the letter ready to print off but was wondering how to word it for the change of address/name.

DO I send the letter to the branch or head office tho' ?

    Thanks

    Claire

You could just write a sentace at the beginning of the letter ' Until the date of my marriage xx/xx/xxxx I was known as Miss XXXXXX XXXXXXX. I enclose a copy of my marriage certificate. I held a current account with you, under the name Miss XXXXXX XXXXX until the date the account was closed. During that time charges totalling £XXXX were applied.'

Then add the contents from the CAG site letter.

i have searched the forum for advise on this but can't find anything. I had a Halifax One card but over a year ago this was cancelled due to the debt and now Payplan are dealing with it. However i followed the advice on the CAG site and managed to get Halifax to agree to a refund of £375 in charges - the letter asked me to sign the form they provided and the amount would be credited to my account. The problem with this is that i no longer have access to that card and wouldnt use it anyway and that money is mine so dont want it being swallowed up and going back to Halifax. My reply to them stated that i agreed to this refund on the condition that they send me a cheque or pay it into my Lloyds TSB account. I havent heard anything in 2 weeks and am worried that i have lost the amount now.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks - I will amend the letter now.

actually - just realised, I got married in 2002 and the account wasn't closed until 2003, This won't cause a problem will it, I mean it's not illegal NOT to change your name at the bank - or is it?

No there is not a problem with changing your name by marriage. The banks are used to it. Just don't let them get away with their unlawful charges.
