They know we are doing this, they know we are going to complain, why else wouldwe want so many backdated statements? My (ex) bank have wavered between cagey and grovelling.
Question - I had the statements, complained and asked for a refund of just over 400 quid and they wrote back saying they believe they had been fair and stuckto their side of the bargain. Now do i threaten them with court? One charge was £70 for being overdrawn one day when a payment was due out.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Hi
Having looked through my old(!) records I have found statements from the clydesdale bank dated 2003 (had this account for years previously). I would like to claim back any charges I have had from them but my question is this:
The account is at my old address and in joint names (my maiden name). They don't have a record of my new address and name as I didn't get chance to inform them before they closed the account. How do I word the letter to them and more importantly - if the account is already closed (by bank and sent to DCA which I have now paid) can I claim back the charges?
Any help would be great......
Thanks

Take a look at https://www.consumeractiongroup.com where you can register and access the library section and find a first letter to write to your old bankers. Send the letter to the address on the last statement, by registered post. In the letter say that you were Miss X until you married on xxx date, and enclose a photocopy of your marriage certificate.
Do not let themoff the peg, and remember you are entitled to 8% interest from the date of each charge. Also you can only go back a maximum of 6 years from todays date.
Good luck,a nd let us know how you get on.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Folks :-
My stepsons finances are a mess. I'm trying to sort them out and have noted the absurd amount he's been paying in bank charges, so I'm going to try and claim them back. I've written to the bank and got six years worth of statements.
I note that he sometimes get charged £10 (£7.50 and £9.50 previously) for having an additions account. When he moved from a child account apparently he was given this account. The 'advantage' of additions is free breakdown insurance (he didn't have a car until recently), free will writing service (he doesn't have any dependants or money to leave) and ...? Is it worth trying to claim that money back from the bank?
In the mean time Barclays (perhaps seeing the claim for bank charges coming) have sent a letter saying they want to close the account and they want the £800 overdraft paying immediately. Until they receive that money they are charging 20p a day. Given he has paid over £1000 in bank fees I am going to tell them to stick it and claim any 20ps back. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks
