I don't think you can force them to keep an account open as it is in their rights to close it .

As for two what people are doing is making two or mor seperate claims I believe.
    Nice to save.

Technically I think they are entitled to charge you for any data request...up to a maximum of £10. However a couple of people I know didnt include a cheque and the bank said that they would waive the charge as a 'gesture of good will'.

Just thought I'd point oiut though that they may be entitled to charge you for this...give it a try though!

    Hi!
You are entitled to the information under the data protection act and that act states a charge of up to £10 may be made to cover the administration costs. Yes you could just ask for it first without enclosing a cheque, but if the bank says no then you'll have wasted time.

In my case Barclays provided the information for free as a 'gesture of good will' and returned the cheque (with a daft letter trying to say they were exempt from the data protection act amusingly.)

    I hope that helps

I have just filed a money claim online against Intelligent Finance. I used some wording from the CAG forum, which said 'see attached list of charges', but there was nowhere to attach any list of charges and no space in the particulars of claim box to type them!

Anyone else had this experience? I thought it would give an option to atatch a file or something...
  • Hello.
    Can anyone help me please?
As someone who is currently living hand to mouth (with no end in sight), I believe I may have a case to reclaim unfair bank charges.
However, I am very naiive regarding bank statements. 2 "charges" on my statements - one entitled INT (interest) and the other CHG (charge).
Are the "unfair bank charges" JUST the CHG (charge) amount, or does it include the INT (interest) amount too?
I'd be very grateful if anyone can help with this, a question that sounds very dumb, I know.
I am about to commence the horrid action of attempting to reclaim, EAK!
Very many thanks in eager anticipation!

Just the CHG charges as these are disprortionate to the costs incurred by the bank. The interest is for a service.

However you can claim the interest, IF it would not otherwise been charged had the initial charge not occurred. This can be tricky to calculate.

For example if you had a balance of 0.00 and then they applied a £30 charge, then because this charge pushed you into overdraft they charged you £2.00 interest, you could claim this interest back.

Hi everyone. I sent my first letter using the CAG template to Natwest, the bank I am claiming from, on the 1st August and it was received on the 2nd (sent recorded), however there still has been no reply. I sent it to my account holding branch....

I'm just wondering whether they're going to ignore it completely or actually do something about it?..I set out the 14 day deadline for response in the letter so I hope they pull their finger out soon!

I was wondering whether anyone else had an experience of NatWest in this situation and how long it their response took..

    Thanks very much

    hi all,
I claimed £494 (+ interest as yet unspecified on the charges raised) & have had a letter already offering £377 (to be deducted from my O/D).

Should i write back rejecting the offer & giving 14 days notice of action, or should i wait til the initial 14 days are up as they have replied so promptly? Or can i reject the offer & warn that the 14 day LBA will follow if required?

Also i'm paying off the O/D unfailingly each month (a/c is closed), so can they impose the refund like that?

the 14 days is amaximum wait time for a response. SInce they have already responded...no ned to wait any longer. Fefuse the offer and demand the full £494.

If you want the interest as well you'd better calculate exactly how much and why.
