Claim back any unfair bank charges! Article Discussion Area

Are increasing, yes I said increasing, their charges.
Taking you over your agreed limit will now be £29 per item:eek:
And I thought everyone said they would be coming down0 -
Can anyone help me with the following: I'm thinking of claiming back some charges and am trying to get my head 'round the procedure. With regards to the Interest Calculation Spreadsheet, can someone clarify what the following means (quoted from the Consumer Action Group Site)? :
"You are advised to send a breakdown of your claim to your bank with your request for a refund of charges. You are strongly advised to attached a schedule to your claim with the courts.
If you send the bank a letter before you have given them time to pay up demanding 8% APR they will know that you do not know what you are doing and this will more than likely end up with you NOT getting your money back."
Thanks for any help!

When initially claiming back from your bank you do not ask for any interest just the charges themselves.
You only add the 8% if you have to make a claim via the small claims court.
Is £12 the minimum limit to claim back for ?Nice to save.0 -
So, this means i won't need the Interest Calculation Spreadsheet until it goes to court? I got a different impression when reading through the main article on this site. It says to work out the 8% in the spreadsheet in step 2, which is way before it gets to court...

Just received my reply from Nat West this morning regarding their £50 charges for my going overdrawn and their paying 2 direct debits on my business account.
I had previously sent them the standard "please pay back my charges or else" letter from the Consumers action Group website https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/
In Nat West's letter, they quoted their rules & regulations and enclosed their business account brochure and terms and conditions leaflet to back up their case for charging me £50.
However, in concluding they state "As a gesture of goodwill I have refunded you £50 today".
So I won!!! :j
I hope this encourages everyone else out there to claim their unfair charges back from their banks.

Here's a question: I want to claim back charges made on two accounts with the same bank, so do I make just one claim (both accounts together) or two separate ones?0

I appreciate that this isnt a huge amount, but with interest its £33 and we were back down to £899 OD the next day-with a weekly standing order from an account at the same bank..
any thoughts?
Yes. Reclaim them.0 -

Yes. Lots of people have reclaimed successfully from LTSB.
Next step? Click on my sig, register (free) there, start reading up on FAQ and step-by-step, (and my guess would be the guide to Scottish claims too?), then start going!0 -

Are Virgin one a bank or a credit card?
Sadly, the OFT only ordered the credit card companies to lower their rates. If it is a credit card, they should be reported to the OFT asap, as they are in direct contravention of the OFT's orders. If they are a bank, we will probably have to wait until the OFT conducts an enquiry into bank charges to see a similar lowering of charges, which will probably take another couple of years at least. *sigh*0
