Sleep to Live Beds

Hi all,
Well i need a new bed and mattress as the springs on mine stick into our backs ! (thanks to my DD jumping up and down on it for 4 years no doubt lol) so i thought i would read this thread and then i couldn't stop lol!
Personally anyone with half a brain knows that sales people don't give a toss about the customers and just want to sell and make money, so I would prefer to take Tim's advice over anyone elses!
I will start looking at smaller companies and see what i can find! But I'm thinking of ordering over the internet as I don't go out much so maybe I should just go for the mattress we had before as I always found that comfy. But thanks Tim for the advice it makes much more sense then all these random people who are gushing over matresses that costs thousands of pounds!0 -

If I were you I would stay away from big brand names and big chain stores if you want good quality at a low price, and shop on line from a seller who has a good returns policy that allows you to actually unpack and sleep on the mattress. This way it is in their interest to make sure that you make the right choice the first time.
I searched on MSE for Silentnight Group and came up with nothing (also tried Silent Night Group, same result).
Can you recommend some sellers who have good returns policies? Thanks,

Just try searching silentnight as the MSE forum doesn't have a very good search engine.
I'm afraid I can't recommend anything on MSE as it could be viewed as advertising. But as a general rule stay well away from big brands and big retailers.0 -
Hello,
Just thought I would offer my two pence worth.
I have had back problems for awhile now and have been looking at new mattresses, as I assumed that was what the problem was, in particular memory foam mattresses and the sleep to live 300.
I started by visiting Dreams, who couldnt really advise which type of mattress would be better for my needs and werent really interested in explaining the benefits of any of them. I left unconvinced they were for me even though they felt 'quite' comfortable to lie on. The price put me off as I felt I may be able to find a sprung mattress just as comfortable.
I then visited Bensons before i saw this thread and tried their analyser which recommended the same mattress type for both my hubby and I. Like many of you I was sceptical but the mattress it recommended for us was reasonably priced at £600 rather than the £1500 memory foam mattresses we started looking at.
Anyway, i lay on the stl 300 for about 10 minutes and decided it was comfortable but would need to try it for longer and compare a few more before buying. The Manager said we could come back when we had more time to try it for longer and there was no pressure from him whatsoever. He did show me a sprung mattress for the same price so I could compare the difference in quality. I cant say i noticed a huge difference but if i had to pick one i would say the stl is softer and more comfortable for MY needs.
After waking up yesterday morning with the worst back ever i went to see a chiropractor and god im glad i did!! my problem is my feet which in turn is affecting my knees, hips and spine, all making my back ache after a nights sleep. (the reason why i first suspected it was my mattress that was the problem)...anyway, after talking to him about mattresses he advised me to avoid memory foam, as its a waste of money with no real extra value than a good sprung mattress. He also said if you get hot in bed it will make sleeping uncomfortable as they hold the heat and if you turn a lot in bed it doesnt return to its original shape very quickly. Then without me saying anything he suggested trying Bensons body analyser to determine the right mattress type for me. His advice was to then use that info to find the right sprung mattress for me.
The OP wanted reviews of STL and when i found this post so did I, but I have come to the conclusion that everyones body needs are different and the STL along with every other mattress out there will be comfortable for some but not for others. Loads of eople told me that memory foam mattresses were the best thing ever but they just werent comfortable enough for ME.
All you can do is try as many as possible and dont rush into it until you are convinced you have found the most comfortable, and by that i mean there has to be a NOTICEABLE difference in comfort for you.
Hope that helps someone. Good luck!0 -

I find it quite amusing that many osteopaths and chiropractors seem to think that the only memory foam mattresses in existence are Tempur, or at least that they are of similar construction. However all the ones with this view have very out of date information.
Memory foam spreads your weight out, providing even support, without causing pressure points, which can't be a bad thing in anyones book. However I''m not saying that it will benefit the problem with your feet.
Mattresses that are constructed from reflex foam with memory foam on top don't give as good support as pocket sprung only mattresses, which may have been what your chiropractor was talking about. However pocket sprung mattresses with memory foam (or latex foam) give far superior support to any other mattress type.
There are two main reasons why some people say that memory foam makes you too hot (and both of these are linked to the Tempur type construction): 1) If it is memory foam on top of reflex foam then air can't circulate through the reflex foam layer to dissipate the heat, as it can with full size steel pocket springs. 2) If the memory foam is too deep then you will just sink deeper into it, and become engulfed. The optimum depth for the memory foam is 2". Any deeper than this doesn't give any better support, and is therefore wasted.
If the density of the memory foam is too high, combined with being too deep, then it can be very difficult to change position. However with a depth of 2", with a density of between 60 and 70kg per m3, then you should have no problem changing position at all.
Buy the way stl mattresses contain reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs which don't allow air flow, as the springs are surrounded by thick walls of reflex foam.
I spoke to someone only last week who tried the stl analyser in two different stores, and got two completely different results, which just shows what a gimmick it really is.0 -
Pleased to locate this on the forum and hoped to find some good reviews from people who have purchased a sleep to live bed from Bensons beds. However its just pages of posts with no substance. There are just a couple of genuine reviews from people who have actually bought this bed the rest is pages and pages of verbal argument.
If you have this type of bed and can offer some genuine feedback then please reply. If you dont own or use this bed then really your point of view is of no use to me.... please dont reply.0 -
I just bought a Sleep to Live 900 today. Didn't go through the computer gimmick -- I just lied on it and said, 'that's my bed, I want the softest one you've got'.
Now, I thought I'd research it and came across this thread. After reading it, I'm having second thoughts, as there's quite a few unsatisfied people.
Is the bed that's coming to me really different from the demo one? Or can I hope that I'm getting what I tried? Should I let a handful of disgruntled people worry me excessively?
If I hadn't read this, I would've just been happy with it...0 -
Got to agree with whichone44, i really wanted to get an idea of what the sleep to live beds are like from actual owners.
Im also in the same boat as Greldon, i laid on it in the shop liked it and after sleeping on and infaltable mattress while saving for a new one it felt great so i ordered my series 500 and then found this thread.
Whilst i appreciate the comments from others on the thread some of which are very helpfull and obviously by persons more knowledgeable than me in the field of beds.
But i really just want to hear from actual owners both new and old what are your experiences of the sleep to live bed once you got the mattress home?, ignoring the gimmicks and the salesmen and the issues with bensons customer care. Is the matress comfy? can you real a definite ridge between the two sides which is so obvious it is uncomfortable? anyone that owned it for a while is it still comfy even it it has sagged?
I went to every retailler you could possibly imagine from Dreams to Harrods and tried hundreds of mattresses i also looked at numerous reviews from various manufacturers and to be honest every manufacturer appears to have good and bad bad reviews on their products. Also the sleep to live beds are made by the Kingsdown group i believe which i believe have been making beds for nearly 100 years. so whilst i appreciate it may not be the best they appear not to be a fly by night company
At the begining of this thread a post was made my davidmparkes who had just had their sleep to live bed delivered please come back on and tell us what its like.0 -

If you read from the start of the thread, then you will see that there are some reviews from people who own them. Some are good and some are bad. There are more bad reviews, but you have to remember that people are more likely to come onto a forum to complain.0
