Quite a few days ago when this thread was young - and much shorter - there was some discussion about people feeling a bit downhearted about not being able to get their shopping bill down as low as Black Saturn manages to. Apparently the government spends 1.87 on three meals a day for a prisoner, 2.00 to 2.20 a day on feeding a soldier and 2.50 a day on feeding a hospital patient.
I for one feel a lot better about my food spend now I've seen these figures, I'm spending a bit more than the NHS, but less than Alan Sugar - probably0 -
Ahhhh but places such as these can buy food in mass bulk so will get them much cheaper than the general public can anyway"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Well yes, that's certainly true! The cafes and food outlets in our hospital foyer do a roaring trade from the patients :rotfl:"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Malt Loaf Recipe
Preheat oven to gas mark 4. Put 3 weetabix, 4oz sugar and 40z of raisins or sultanas in a mixing bowl and add 1 mug of hot black tea. Leave to soak until the mixture has gone cold. Stir and add in 2 eggs. Stir again and add in 4oz self raising flour and 2oz porridge oats (optional but if not using oats substitute for 2 more ounces of flour). Mix thoroughly and add to a loaf tin and bake in the oven.
there you are:D0 -

Just want to say thanks Black Saturn for taking the time to do this - it seems to have gone down really well. I only saw this thread a couple of days ago and still haven't managed to read it all yet but I have made the fruit cobbler already! and will try the malt loaf at the weekend. It's great to get some new ideas for meals as I seem to get stuck in a rut with food sometimes. I've also started meal planning which helps cut down my shopping time as well as my bills - I'm no longer wandering aimlessly up & down the aisles!0
