Hi, I just wanted to say a huge thanks to Black Saturn for posting this. I think everyone has to make their own choices in life and you have every right to cut your food budget as low as you can to leave a bit over for holidays and other treats you like for your family. I know when I was young we didn't always have 5 fruit and veg a day or eat how nutritionists recommend but it was varied and my parents did their best, and indeed the memories I have of the holidays and day trips they scrimped to afford will always be such special memories for me. I'm not criticising anyone who chhoses other priorities, far from it, just emphasising the fact that such lifestyle choices are down to each family and no-one should be too quick to judge others on their choices

I had a child to tea yesterday (after school 'till parents came home) and we had the cobbler. Hugh success - especially when I told him it was called Black Saturn Cobbler :rotfl: - I think it made it extra special for him! Thanks Black Saturn (again!)0

I couldn't agree more Sarah -everyone cuts their cloth according to their means. Some people economise on food to enable them pay for long haul holidays and others have days out. Horses for courses.0

and i think it doesn't matter which we do . as long as it make us happy then who has the right to critisize ( sp ? )0

I made the chocolate mousse last night and it was so delicious. Tasted like an expensive restaurant dessert, yet very easy to make. Thanks BS, that will be a regular from now on :T
Someone mentioned what to have with it or put on the bottom. My children put sliced banana in theirs but I like my chocolate straight0 -

This sounds lovely - do you have the recipie fo ryour Chicken Lasagne and the pasta with tomatoe sauce?0 -
The chicken lasagne was a bit of an invention just using up what I had, I think I used a ratty old pepper, an onion, some peas and some leftover chicken all mixed in with a white sauce jazzed up with a bit of wholegrain mustard, then topped off with more plain white sauce.
The fresh tomato sauce is about 2lb fresh tomatoes skinned and chopped, simmered gently with one chopped onion, 2 tspns sugar, 1 of salt and some basil leaves ripped into it towards the end of cooking (about 20 minutes). I usually cook this when XDH presents me with a bucket of tomatoes from his allotment but they had them half price in Lidl and I ended up with too many of them by accident
Oh and the chicken rice salad is a recipe I brought back from Germany, about 2 cups of rice (uncooked weight) when it's cooked I mix it with about 2 breasts of chicken stripped from a boiled chicken, 1 finely chopped onion, 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon salad cream and 2 teaspoons curry powder.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Thanks Blacksaturn. This will make you all laugh. Last week I did jacket spuds and OH was out so I left his in the oven next to the half eaten tray of peach cobbler. He thought that the two were meant to go together and didn't have the heart to tell me till a couple of days later that peach cobbler (well he thought it was orange) and jacoket potato don't taste nice together LOL :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0
