I cheated tonight and dished up frozen mini kievs and chips. Well I have got a stinking cold so I thought I'd have the 'night off'.

    Fruit Cobbler Recipe

In an oven proof dish add in 1 mug of self raising flour, 1 mug of granulated sugar and 1 mug of milk. Mix it all up so it's thoroughly mixed together and then add 1 tin of value tinned fruit of your choice on top. Bake in the oven on gas mark 4 until golden. The flour mix will rise up above the fruit.

Didn't get round to making this last weekend but it's on the menu for sunday, have a tin of strawberries lined up!:D am really looking forwards to it after all the rave reviews!

I cooked the Malt Loaf last night, and I was so amazed. I can't stand tea, I can't even drink my coffee if the spoon has been used to stir tea and then my coffee, as I can taste it. But I had a nibble of the loaf as dh and the boys said it was great, and you can't taste the tea! It was very easy. I wondered if I should have greased the tin, but as it didn't say to, I didn't bother and it came out fine. I also meant to time it to see how long it took, but I forgot to note when I put it in, so I still don't know how long it takes!

  • Malt Loaf Recipe

Preheat oven to gas mark 4. Put 3 weetabix, 4oz sugar and 40z of raisins or sultanas in a mixing bowl and add 1 mug of hot black tea. Leave to soak until the mixture has gone cold. Stir and add in 2 eggs. Stir again and add in 4oz self raising flour and 2oz porridge oats (optional but if not using oats substitute for 2 more ounces of flour). Mix thoroughly and add to a loaf tin and bake in the oven.

Does it matter what size mug of black tea you use or can anyone tell me an amount? Thanks :T

About a mug sized amount again.

For a variation you can use coffee which gives it a slightly different taste or you can add something stronger to it like about an eggcup full of brandy, whisky or rum to make it a little more special.

sorry i re-read my post and it could get confusing. i mean the mug is 3/4 of a pint. not 3 or 4 pints. hope i haven't confused any one any further.

It's hopefully done by now but yes, until the knife comes out clean.

If you think the top might burn, just cover over with a cut sheet of greaseproof paper to help protect it.

The malt loaf sounds great but I'm just wondering if I could get away with making it (without sugar). I can't eat a lot of sugar and I'm thinking that the sweetness of the fruit will be enough, rather than adding in extra sugar, or even if I just put in a little bit of sugar rather than the full quantity. It should still turn out ok, shouldn't it?
