  • Well for the first time in as many years i can remember I've decided to not go for a cash back deal, I got a good deal from t-mobile retentions so will go with that. Thanks to everyone who has offered help and advise on my cash back deals over the last few years.
  • My latest cashback arrived on time (earlier than "to the day").
  • Well a month ago my xbox broke and i wanted to upgrade my phone.Searched the web and went for a deal with this companye.Free gift was a xbox and the phone was classed a a clerance phone .Got the phone no problem only to discover it was a refurb .Asked why i was given a refurb was told it states it on the site.Turns out they hide it under the phone spec details ,As i knew the spec of the phone i was buying i did not read it all at the time.If they were selling a refurb it should have been in the main heading along side the phone details.Very underhanded of them i think. Then it come to claiming my xbox .Posted copys of my passport and driveing licence .Two weeks later no xbox .Rang them up only to discover they had not recived them.Great now some one has copys of them out there. What ever you do use recorded delivery if you deal with them. Then got told i can claim useing two bills from my mobile phone.Emailed them the the bills only to be told rhey wont accept them because my two bills were merged ?.A month and some terrible customer service later.I have sent the phone back and intend to complain about there misleading advertiseing,Used another site and got my new phone and xbox the next day.My advice stay clear they are underhanded.

Lol. I see BMP's are part of the "Shopsafe" scheme.
I know they have no "clout", but maybe we should all fill in the complaint form when we have issues with BMP's, like breaching the T&C's etc. lol

This is standard practice. Many - if not all - of the resellers do it. They can call them "Clearance" phones because that is exactly what they are doing; clearing out the refurbs as they can't sell them as "new". There are plenty of threads on here about it, where people have gone in with their eyes open knowing exactly what they were going to get and been very happy with the purchase. It's actually a very good way of getting a top-end phone (Desire, Galaxy S) at a knock-down price. The chances are that the phone has never been used.

They have hardly hidden the fact that clearance mobiles are refurbs.
This is what it says for the desire I bought last night, you cant miss it unless your a blind and a bit dim.

    HTC Desire Clearance

    htc_desire.jpg
Desire by name and desirable by nature, this Android™ handset (2.1 Éclair) uses the latest HTC Sense™ interface that is being raved about. It has a huge 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, running at a very impressive 480x800px. Everything looks gorgeous on the Desire.

The connected possibilities of the Android operating system are taken full advantage of as the Desire has 7.2Mbps HSDPA and 2Mbps HSUPA super-fast Internet connectivity, plus Wi-Fi b/g.

There is a 5MP auto-focus, flash camera, GPS receiver, G-sensor and digital compass for geo-tagging and augmented reality application. And, naturally, there is a host of advanced music and video capabilities, plus the microSD card slot takes cards up to 32GB.

Social networking is sorted with Facebook™ integration, Friend Stream, photo-sharing on Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter, video-sharing on YouTube™, and HTC Peep for twittering. There's also loads of HTC widgets installed with more to download, and with thousands of apps to download from the Android Market your Desire can simply grow and grow.

This handset is a refurbished clearance item and offers a huge discount off the original retail price. Refurbished handsets are usually ex-demo or returned products, which we have reconditioned and repackaged, they are also blemish-free. All refurbs come with a battery and charger as standard, although other accessories are not guaranteed. They also come with a full 12-month warranty.
  • This dealer is now showing more worrying signs. Copying the worst practices of some of its competitors (changing the t&c after the point of sale and trying to pretend they are the same). The second time this month I've needed to rely on one of my most fundamental groundrules. The dealer's risk factor is increasing I'm afraid!

I agree about the worrying signs, they remind me of the Mobileshop era and I just hope they don't go down the Coolnewmobile route - not until after my claims are complete. :D
Too many free deals over too long a period - the same sort of stuff that the above two failed on. Something has got to give - it's just not sustainable.

  • Not sure about that actually. They don't have many totally free deals on and the best deals are with rubbish phones. The company you're referring to had excellent phones on totally free deals. Since many people want the latest fad they may make a lot from those customers. In any case, the latest slip of hand was actually a rather foresighted attempt to divert a potential problem they might have - but it's unlikely many other people will notice.
  • Tbh i didnt have any problems with my t nobile upgrade they changed by faulty phone htc desire to a galaxy s after the 7 day period also my 2 free derby county tickets and shirt came on time as i upgraded durin the promotion period.
