Mineral foundation

  • I love my mineral foundation. I've used Elemental Beauty which was good (and some high street versions which I didn't get on with so much) but now I use Lily Lolo. You can get inexpensive samples from their website. I find the colours quite forgiving but there are hints online to help you chose the right shade. You could also email them with details of what you already use and they could probably help you out. if it looks chalky on your skin it is too light, if it looks orangy then too dark.
For me (oily skin, prone to spots but also excema) it evens out my skin, no spots and doesn't feel like a mask. Takes a while to get used to the application though.

I have a combination skin prone to small blemishes.
I am not a big fan of mineral foundation. Used Bare Escentuals (expensive brand) and L'Oreal (only 95% mineral). They do even out skin tone but I found them enhancing my pores and making blemishes appear bigger. The Bare Escentuals one was more luxurious, particles were much smaller and it was easier to blend in than L'Oreal. But I wasn't satisfied with the texture of my skin after application. Also, it made me shine through out the day. Initially, with the 2 foundations I tried, the look was radiant and glowy (due to titanium dioxide I suppose) but later became oily. All of the mineral foundations have SPF, which is nice.
I think mineral foundation is really good for people prone to redness or with very sensitive skin, otherwise it's a bit of a gimmick. You're best off trying a sample first. I won't be buying any again. Instead, I learned to use less of my normal foundation, to achieve a natural look.

Edit: They 'clear' the skin if your previous foundation gave you spots.
  • I use Bare Escentuals - I find it is the best for me - it covers up rosy cheeks well and seems to last on me all day but I have normal-dry skin.
I have also tried Lily Lolo which I find good but not quite as suitable for my skin as BE. It is cheaper so worth looking at their website https://www.lilylolo.co.uk - the good thing about Lily Lolo is that you can buy samples so you can find the best match for your skin without having to buy a huge pot.
  • there is soooooooo many posts on this site regarding mineral foundation....

What does everybody think about mineral foundation? I've heard it can help clear up skin (I get the odd spot on my chin) and it's supposed to look a lot more natural than liquid foundation. Any recommnendations for brands? Should I go to make-up counters so they can match my skin to the right shade like I would do with liquid foundation?

ELF do a mineral product specifically for spots and I have been using that to cover up hormonal breakouts http://www.eyeslipsface.co.uk/product~prodID~183.htm

I would like to point out that mineral foundations are not a gimmick

Jane Iredal is used in hospitals and red cross clinics around the world for its healing and coverage properties and BE minerals has been on the market for decades

To answer you questions, you dont need to colour match as carefully as its the warmth and oils of your skin that develop the finish. If Im wearing Bare Escentuals ( go look on qvc for videos) I can wear Light, medium beige and golden medium

I now wear either Bare Escentuals or Elemental beauty. Both give great cover as I have roseacea, open pores and combi skin.I dont get spots now, the odd black head still as we all do but none of those nasty painful block pore spots that take an age to come to a head and go

Because mineral make up is so light I do often sleep in it cos I forgot Im wearing it - with nothing breaking out

Look for the purest mineral you can find. Watch out for talc - it is a mineral but it clogs your pores and its that which will cause outbreaks

Apologies, I know I am reviving an old post but just wanted to say that I am now trying Bare Minerals. Had a make under along with my daughter on .friday night, had a few itches but wasn't sure if they were psychological because of my reaction to Lily Lolo. Next morning having removed the make up the night before I wasn't sure if my face was tingling/burning. went back to John Lewis again yesterday (Sunday) and had it reapplied and kept it on for the rest of the day with no problems.

My son said he liked it and thought it looked a lot more natural than my normal makeup so have bought a get started kit. Daughter loving hers so we shall see how I get on.
