Ok usually use maybelline mousse and find it fab BUT thought i would give avons mineral powder a go! combined with the maybelline i have the most perfect skin which is great but have gained a few spots which i don't normally get so thinking it's a bit OTT for my skin! on it's own the mineral i use a big brush but the coverage is quite powdery and hard to get onto edge of nose etc..is there a way to get it applied better..am obviously doing something wrong!
Thanks

As I understand it, Avon mineral foundation (along with most of the other high-street mineral products which come from brands which mainly do non minerals) contains impurities and fillers which make the products potentially more problematic than those from specialist mineral cosmetic companies.
Many of us over on the mineral make-up thread swear by Elemental Beauty products, which are reasonably priced and "pure".
It is possible also that you are simply using too much, or not "buffing" properly, or something - somewhere in that thread there's a link to a YouTube clip of a demo of how to apply mineral foundation.Operation Get in Shape

I tried the Avon Perfect Match mineral foundation and found it to be awful... more like baby talc. I sent it back and got a refund. I now use Bare Escentuals and am very happy with it.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
Elemental Beauty for me too. I would add that from my personal experience, I didn't get on with the kabuki brush. I found that another brush from EB was easier to use.
Also, Veronarona's advice of applying it without looking, really worked! More you muck and around and the more you apply - worse it got.... Its a knack that you get used to. And as it is so pure, it won't aggravate your skin and its not the end of the world if you don't remove it at night... You should - but won't muck up your skin if you don't, just your pillow.............Genie

Ha!!!
I had a nap this afternoon before work, left my face on and woke up and only had to buff a bit of mineral veil on before heading out - face still in the right place - pillow case CLEAN0 -
I've been using EB's foundation for about 2 weeks and have to say my face is the clearest it's been for years0

I tried Avon mineral makeup and it was awful!! I recommend collection 2000 if your on a budget, its only about £3 and evens out skin tone, looks natrual and lasts all day.0

Ive not tried avon's mineral stuff. The best way to test the quality of your minerals is to take a glass of water shake some of the make up on top, give it a good swirl.
If the powder has made the water brown, its not really made of minerals at all or has very low amount of them in there. (thus it may cause reactions, breakouts, dryness etc and has no sun protection factor)
natural minerals will float back to the top and apppear dry ( these are better for your skin with them being non chemical, and natural, non pore blocking)
Its just an interresting test to do if you have a sample or something to test before you buy.
the best way to use any kind of powder foundation is to moisturise first to give them something to stick to, you want a slightly tacky face so when it soaks in the make up 'adheres' so to speak. Also i know on QVC and places like that they show women using two specks of the stuff to cover birthmarks etc. That isnt true at all. You have to use a decent tap of it per side of the face.
The brush you use is crucial, you do need a stiff kabooki brush (usually free with the pot) or use a blusher brush and squeeze the bristles in at the bottom to make them stiffer so you are working it onto your face not just poofing a bit over the surface.
Hope that helps a bit!It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

Hi
I use lilylolo minerals. They're pure and samples to try are cheap so you can find the correct shades easily.

!
I personally would say - make sure you have a very dry face before applying minerals else it can go on very streaky. I moisturise, then dry my hair before I even attempt to put on my foundation, I may even give a blot with a tissue before just to make sure.
I think QVC do use a bit more the two specksBut you do need to use very very little.More is less and gust going back and buffing a bit more is usually enough. Obviously a foundation on its own wont cover all birthmarks and blemishes, but used with the concealers you can get excellent coverage with very little product. I wouldnt be through a third of the jar of foundation ordered back in October - and I wear it daily to cover roseacea
