heres a question, i dont know if any of you guys can answer this, i am the least experienced at work and i just found out they are hiring two new people, i was full time including weekends but i cant do those hours when i go back because theres nobody to look after seth and theres no nurserys open at weekends around here, i also dont really want to leave seth for full time working hours so would want to go part time. are they entitled to say i cant go back at all if i'm the one wanting to change what i work?

Yes but they MUST give a business reason as to why you can't possibly go back flexitime I think http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/Flexibleworking/DG_10029491
Under the law your employer must seriously consider any application you make, and only reject it if there are good business reasons for doing so. You have the right to ask for flexible working - not the right to have it.

Oh and your employer is entitled to take up to 14 weeks to decide if they can work around a flexitime arrangement so you would really need to start thinking about it now depending on when you want to go back... granted they might decide a lot faster but then again they may not...

do you think being unable to work saturdays would be a good enough reason? its the busiest day. i'm worried that cos i'm the least experienced they will try and find an excuse not to take me back, the two new people going in have been in the industry for years and before i left there wasnt enough work to warrant all of us staff let alone two new ones.

Doesn't quite work like that - if you ask for flexi time and it's only saturdays you can't work then they have to consider if it's practical to get a job share in with the relevant experience to cover only that day - and if they can find someone to cover the time at say the same or less salary than you are on - it can get a bit complex :(
My last company was scared witless of anyone claiming unfair/constructive dismissal because of not allowing flexitime so despite it being detrimental to the company they allowed flexi hours for several employees. The team feeling towards them was NOT nice because everyone else had to suffer as a result so there is more to consider than just "will work let me" when you decide if you want to apply for it...

    Evening ladies

    How is everyone today??
Well I had the most eventful night ever last night!!!
We had a power cut at 6pm just as we were in the middle of cooking tea:mad:
I phoned NIE and they said they didnt know what the problem was and couldnt give an estimated fix time, so had to go for a chippy for tea instead:D
Anyway at 8pm there were men in my street drilling little holes everywhere and when they landed at my house I went out to see what was going on
Turns out that the main electric cable for my whole estate runs through my garden
and the problem seemed to be at the corner of my lawn:confused:
They started to dig a little bit up to see where the prob was and ended up with us having to agree to let them dig a bl00dy great big hole in my front garden to get the problem fixed !!!!!!!!!!!
Took them till 3.40 AM to get the electric back on and I woke up this morning to barriers surrounding the front of my house to stop us falling into the 4ft deep hole that they have dug!!!!

Sorry for the VERY long ranting post, but needed to get that off my chest :o

Feeling a bit scared and lonely. First time I've ever been in hospital overnight. Told OH not to visit, dont want him stresses incase he smokes.
