Not liking this bit of that guardian article
The baby's safety was her primary motive - but not, she adds, the only one. "The other issue was the risk of pelvic floor damage. Again small, but to me, just not worth it."

Just not worth it?? how selfish IMHO, I'm only 23 and do a little wee every time I sneeze :o was it worth it? YES!!! (obviously coz I'm doing it again!!:p)
My incontinence can be fixed more than likely without surgery and 'if' I need surgery it will be a very small key hole thingy probably with a local ann how is that not better than having the massive op that is a c/s??

I think if you think of the incontinence as severe incontinence and feacal (sp?) incontinence too... I can see the point... Bearing in mind these are people who 99% of the time only see the worst case scenario. Not sure the risk level would be enough to make me feel a C-section would be enough. The only thing in there that worried me was that only 50% of women wanting a normal vaginal birth ended up with "intervention" - ofcourse that included c-secs, forceps and any other type of intervention... and I guess that figure should be seen in the cold light of day as how many could be normal natural births IF the mother had done the research and made an informed choice about still going ahead with natural :)

I work with midwives and they all agree that consultants are far to 'in' to clinical intervention... I suppose if you spend all your time working with high rish women then you're a bit more aware of the risks... But if everything is straight forward then there's no need to turn it into a medical procedure!

This is exactly my way of thinking.
Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!

Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:

Its so weird tho isn't it, on one hand they are saying lets encourage homebirths, natural pain releif and BFing but in reality most are not actually following these.
Mums are always seeming to be encouraged to give birth in hospital, be induced, have analgesics and get told to top up babies with formula because they aren't gaining weight according to the blooming chart (and then 5 yrs down the line saying ur kid is fat!!)

My MW was banging on about a home birth or water birth but then admitted that it rarely happens because the MW's get scared! They don't like water births because they can't be hands on - don't bloody ask me if I want it if you're not going to give it to me!!
I don't have to go back to Midwife for three weeks! They are happy with me, I'm healthy enough, so next MW appointment is 37 weeks, and fortnightly after that.

Student midwife was there, so I was cruel and asked to hear the babies heartbeat. Student tried for 5 minutes and couldn't find it. Good practice for her, he is very difficult to track down!

Go feelie! Glad it went well.
Sorry to ask a very stupid question but what does VBAC mean? :o

Thanks for that Mollie I had been wondering but didn't want to look a donut asking!

Krystal - that's why I don't want to be under a Consultant who will try and frighten me! Oh and I'm not being funny and hope I don't offend anyone but why are they all foreign? I really hope that the one I see can speak and understand good english - I hate it when there is that language barrier.

Ah man, aren't I supposed to be doing my work?!!!
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?

Good grief - that took a long time to catch up a bit! I've been gone for quite a while, but it's been insane here and things are just now starting to settle a bit again. We had to deal with SPD, GD, FIL's death (funeral was yesterday), illness (practically everyone in the immediate family), and niece's wedding coming up on Saturday. But hopefully things are tolerable now for us - DH is going back to work tonight - was off for a few weeks due to the stress and illness. So I think things are getting back to normal. We have our 20wk scan on 23 March, so we're looking forward to that.

Sounds like everyone has been very busy!

:rotfl: I've just been out walking, taking the dog for his hair appointment! - and on the way back, sneezed without doing a little wee - for the first time since the birth. :rotfl:

Ladies - never underestimate the power of your pelvic floor excercises. Everybody togerther now, 1, 2, 3 and SQEEZE!

And, who'd have thought walking a dog and a pram could be so difficult! Daft bloody dog kept walking in front of the wheels and getting run over.
