:)no it is not.... i'm asking for the power consumption of the device( volts & amps)

I am asking for the power needed to use the appliance to be displayed on the box.. eg.18.5 volts 3.9amps , this is my laptop. I generate my own power via wind turbines and solar panels... and because my laptop is a high energy user i need to use an inverter... and further more i would never have bought it had i known the power requirements....
Before commenting on the post I would like to ask everybody that they try to understand the importance of such a piece of legistlation.... and its impact on the marketing and manufacturing of electrical goods.... not to mention the impact it will have on the informed public.
And in answer to the moneysavingexpert users answer to my request for help I say, if this information was already on the boxes i would not be wasting my time eh???

Isn't your wish to have energy consumption labels on products already covered by the EU directive on energy labelling?

hello.... if this was the case would i be wasting my time or yours??? know the power of your appliances volts+amps = £££'s
Rather than trying to troll a response by being offensive, why don't you simply read the link I've already provided.
...The Energy Labelling Directive requires that appliances be labelled to show their power consumption in such a manner that it is possible to compare the efficiency with that of other makes and models. The intention is that consumers will prefer more energy efficient appliances over those with a higher consumption, resulting in less efficient products eventually being withdrawn or decommissioned...

...appliances must be marked to show their maximum energy consumption...

I presume you do understand the relationship between power, potential difference and current.

will you then be looking for more economical devices?????
energy ignorance is no excuse......... WAKE UP!!!!!!!!

Does a 240V device use more electricity than the same device designed to run off 120V?
No. The electric company charges you for watt-hours, not volts, and the wattage is the same. To figure volts you use the fomula V x Amps = Watts. A device that uses twice as many volts will use half as many amps, so the wattage will be the same -- and so will the cost.

try producing your own power...... oh and further more dis information may satisfy some but others are more curious..... and aware that the way we use power needs to be addressed...... I'm sorry but i can give no quarter to greed and arrogance....think out of the box......:)

Dude, I suggest you stop parading your ignorance or people will continue to extract the urine. This has nothing to do with "economical devices" and everything to do with your wacky "green chic" home setup. Stop trying to harass the government to change the world to suit you. Adapt instead.

Hardly. I gave you a link to the kind of thing you need. I'm sorry if it undermines your rant.

Let me spell it out for you: If you use a car adapter for your laptop you won't need to plug its mains adapter into an inverter in order to use it with your 12V batteries & solar panels.

You don't have a power consumption problem, you have a voltage problem.

(and a crack-pipe problem, but hey...)

My point, since you need it pointed out to you, is that you said this is a consumer ignorant world. Just under 7 million consumers logged into this website last month, how can you say thats ignorance?
