We the consumer need to have the choice of lower voltage electrical equipment. the implications of this petition have far reaching consequences for the electrical goods manufacturers and the consumer. NB. do not under estimate the gravity of this cause.Yes they might have A rated or B ratd or whatever written on them, but it is meaningless without knowing the actual wattage of it. I agree with this petition.0

I agree with the idea, I just think those petitions on that government website are just a complete waste of time. They never seem to have any notice taken of them.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0

It'll waste some time and money for the taxpayer?
ALL electrical goods already have this labelling - As in "A rated; B Rated etc etc".
volts + amps =££££'s knowing the power of your electrical items will save you money especially when your purchasing them..... ( same spec less power ) come on guys....i need your help sign the petition if you'd like to see a more competitive electrical goods market based on power consumption as well as other specifications...... 'be informed'0 -

'from little acorns'..... my fellow money saving expert, have some faith...:)0 -
Sorry but signing that petition will not save me "£100s" on my bills.
Even if the government act on putting that information on stuff, I have a new TV bought last year, Washing machine and tumble drier were bought the year before. So I'm unlikely to go out and buy a whole new set of appliances just because the wattage is displayed on them.
So how will signing that save me "£100s" as you put it?
Anyone buying a new appliance will probably save money thats true, I'd like to see some evidence of the £100s you talk about though.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Isn't your wish to have energy consumption labels on products already covered by the EU directive on energy labelling?

ecoed - you've responded to the same post 3 times now - are you ok?
In all honesty, how many people would actauly look at this?
The ABC etc is simple, but it still isn't a deal breaker for most people.0 -
ecoed - stop typing and think for a minute. How can they possibly tell you the power consumption of these devices? It varies according to what you are doing.
Your laptop will use a lot more power playing a game than when web-browsing.
Your washing machine will use more power if you put 10 towels in it instead of a single t-shirt.
Your fridge will use a more power in summer than winter.
Fact is, the ABCD etc system allows a simple comparison of average power consumption between similar products, and that's the best you're going to get when no-one (not even the manufacturer) can possibly know how much power you're really going to use.0 -
Crikey mate... calm down, I am very passionate about saving energy... and money, but even if the cost to run the appliance was printed on the packaging, i.e. 1800 watt hair drier run for an hour at Avg 0.09p/ kWh costs 16 pence... for 5 minutes it will cost Avg 0.01p, is anybody gonna bother trying to find one that runs cheaper than that!!? if they are, they should be drying their hair with a TOWEL!!
edit
by the way, all appliances already have the voltage and wattage / amps on the rating label...240V 2200W... Kettle but it will only use the full 2.2 kWh (£1.98) if on for a whole hour.. in which case it will probably have melted way before then...:rolleyes:There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!
