I subscribe to the thread of the comps I enter, thus putting a little "tick" icon on the title as it appears in the forum list. This is how I know I've entered without having to check the thanks. Then I remove the subscription a while after comp has ended.

This would not work for me because I use many areas of the site and when I subscribe to a thread its because I want to check back on it. If I subscribed to every comp I entered it would make my subscriptions list long and complicated to check. Also subscribing takes more than one click. We need something as quick and easy as the thanks button. Or even better if some sort of marker automatically appeared when we open a thread so we know where we have been.

Loving your work Martin x :D

Do you not get one? We are encouraged to leave a re-direct, and you should always be able to find it in 'My Subscriptions'.

Yep. I leave one unless there is a good reason why not.

How about the proposed "Food shopping and groceries" being changed to "Food shopping, cooking and groceries". Many threads are by people wondering how to eke out what they already have, e.g. the ongoing storecupboard challenges, and also the vast collection of recipes needs a home as they are not strictly relevant to Old Style.

Andrea, Martin or whoever, can we have a reason for keeping the sub-board for ISAs, while not making a sub board for stocks/shares/commodities investing?
The threads about share trading, funds and IFAs etc are swamped by those about building societies/bank accounts, and the ISA sub board is not often used by posters anyway as many queries discuss ISAs as just another form of saving - or of course investing.

Let me also echo strongly the proposal to lock all posts (with perhaps some exceptions) after say two months. It has become common for someone to find a really old thread via search, then add a new post to it, confusing board regulars who find an apparently new post.

Proposed Changes (we’d like your feedback)

These are some of the proposals we like but there's been debate on in the thread, so we'd like to test the water on them.
    • Bankruptcy and Living With it Make this a main board with IVAs as a sub-board
    • DFW Create a Diaries sub-board
Hope you like them all - do let us know (I’m sure you will)

    Martin

Certainly agree with the 'Bankruptcy and Living With it' becoming a 'board' in its own right - it's one of the success (and deservedly so) stories on the whole site, having grown from one single thread, on the DFW board, less than two years ago, into the haven of support and information that it now is.
The same with IVAs - perhaps they could both be grouped under a section of 'Insolvency'

Not too sure about the DFW Diary threads, though. This was discussed about a year ago and the general consensus of opinion was to 'leave it as it was' but keeping it under review.
My concerns are that, for many posters, it is by 'keeping a diary' that they are able to ask about specific debt problems, rather than starting individual threads. For many posters, their 'debt or spending diary' is the most important tool in dealing with their debts and I am more than a bit worried that if these 'diaries' are moved to a sub board, then many of the regular posters may not bother to look on that sub board on a regular basis, leading to a potential risk that the 'diary poster' may miss out on valuable advice.
I also appreciate that some diaries become 'social' threads and can 'clog up the board', but there really is nothing wrong with that - it keeps many of the more experienced posters 'on the board' and ready to give freely of their advice and experience.
Certainly there appears to be no evidence that the 'diary threads' are depriving 'newbie posters' of any advice - if anything the opposite is true as these 'diaries' are often brimming with useful information.

Anyway - those are just my thoughts - I'm sure we will manage with whatever changes are made.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Thank you for the update of changes Martin, just wondering though, there is no mention of I won I won I won, or Game Over in relation to the Competition Forums. Are they not staying?? As I love I won I won I won!! it's so motivational when you've gone on a bit of a dry spell!!!

    Lucy x

Lucy the Competition thread is simply being put lower down on 'shopping board' of the main forum - the sub threads within the board (iwiwiw, GO etc) will not change or move.
