I think the argument against a sub forum is this:

If the regulars are all on the sub forum who's going to be around to answer all the queries of newbies??

Also if the diaries go over - what happens to the challenges and other threads??

I would argue, as a newbie to that board that I would not post on there anyway as it is so muddled.

And I am sure there is useful information on them but I (and it is only my opinion) don't like trawling through pages of personal stuff to maybe find the answer to my questions.

My opinion is it deters rather than attracts newbies.

People dont realalize if you have to pay for a newspaper or pay for the postage then it is not a Freebie (no spend required) so offers that you have to pay postage on or buy a rubbish newspaper would go into the Low Spend board.
    Quite simple realy,

I get that bit the point I was trying to make is how do you decide what low is. I'm all for keeping it seperate but would just prefer if it was put in the title the spend required.

As it happens, it was a diary that got me here in the first place. And it was a damn good read.

Different people need different types of help and information. Some people need fast access to hard facts. Others need to feel involved by the stories of others. It all helps in its own way.

Sometimes, our own needs are either one or the other.

These boards have to cover all people, diverse as they are.

So my vote is to retain the diaries in the main boards. It is an integral part of the humanity that shines through on MSE and that is what sets it apart from other forums.

But thats not what I'm saying...regardless of whats in the diary threads, the regulars are moving between them and then see the newbie posts and post on those too...

real newbies to tend to start new threads - they are all the same pretty much - in debt, need to post an SOA to find out where the money goes, keep a spending diary etc etc and if there's just a board of those threads then they will never get answered because everyone else will be in the diary/daily chat bit...

Anyway, the fact that it comes up so often means the powers that be have clearly decided what they want - despite the fact it has been discussed a lot already - I'm sure it'll be like the house boards :(

im for splitting up the DFW board - the reason being that although everyone has a common purpose of becoming debt free there is different ways of doing it - some go bankrupt, some go on plans, some use diaries, some use challenges and some just ask questions here and there to get help as they need it and as things arise - bankrupts and payment plans are sub forums already and work - people needing help via this method use them.

The sub forum for diaries allows them to be grouped together as a resource for those who are able to follow a sometimes long winded route to debt freeness or to ask questions/join in etc

Freeing up the main forum would allow space for those with quick questions/ new queries to be discussed and receive more attention? As more and more people face debts it would be good to have a place where they can come in first insance and get help without being overclogged by some of the more long term debt free diaries/challenges? Still have a sticky directing to diaries on main forum as well as the daily chat section in the main bit

I agree with the diaries being on a separate board. I've been using the forums for a long time - to pass on my support and advice and too look for the same. However, I find the diaries do get in the way when I'm trying to look through where advice is being sought, or when I'm waiting for an answer to something I've asked. There have been times lately when I've asked a question then an hour later, my questions is on page 12!

I do dip in now and again, but soon disappear again because I can't easily see where the questions are. I'll still read the couple I do follow but at least I might be able to pass on the advice I've been given.

The Pensions part should not be moved.

    how about
    savings accounts in one place
cash isas in another place (maybe a subset of savings accounts )
investing and pensions (or maybe pensions a subset of investing)

they are all pure money topics - don't move pensions somewhere else please!

and yes can we have everything to do with survey sites somewhere
    then cashback websites somewhere
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

I agree with Rog2 about leaving the diary threads on the same forum. If regulars come in for a chat it does keep them on the board and they do still answer debt queries as well. If the regulars were just on the board to chat then a lot of the important threads of people asking for help would definitely get missed.

I also agree with Rog2's other post about time delay. I've had one of my threads come up from time to time and it must be a year old now but it is still there as a reference and people do still post on it.

I'm inclined to think Pensions should stay in the Pure Money section. These days pensions are less and less attached to work/jobs and more and more a separate investment in their own right, similar to an ISA.

On the benefits side, the new rules on state pensions will mean that most people will get the full pension and won't be claiming pension credits later, so benefits won't be relevant either.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
