If you are looking for a telephone number for Play that is not 0845 then this is a number they say to use if your outside the U.K. 44 (0)1534 877595
So even if you are in the U.K. using 01534 877595 should get you through to them.
Maybe helpful if you're calling package includes inclusive calls to 01 numbers, rather than paying for using 0845.0 -
Just wanted to say thanks to the op. I won't be ordering from play again!0

dh wants to get something from play, so I'm thinking of getting a prepay card and just putting a certain amount on it. I've seen one "the aspinall foundation maestro prepaid card" that has no start up fee and helps save gorillas. Is this a good idea? Anyone used prepaid cards, are they accepted on the internet? Thanks.0

If I must use Play because they are offering a product significantly cheaper than anyone else, then all I do is change my card details from one of the test cards listed in this thread to my real card. When payment is taken I then change back to the test card details.0

Just wondered if anyone has tried using a prepay type card with play- do they accept these? its just annoying as card fraud is the last thing I need right now (its the last thing anyone needs!) and play seem to have the cheapest price for a CD I want. I know it wont go into the sale (its a 'delux edition' and in my experience, delux editions by this singer have never been reduced- the price only goes up).
I have heard of a few, am sure I could google for them, but do they hold a risk at all? anyone tried this?0 -
It's a shame this thread is running under Bargain Buys, Sassy Shopping and Fantastic Freebies.
Many MSErs have an interest, and some insight into, scams and scammers -- but don't necessarily come on here (to judge by the absence of their posting IDs here.)
Really, isn't it about time this thread was shifted from a category to which it doesn't relate to one which would be more appropriate, such as the Home & Play Board / Praise, Vent & Warnings?
It'd be a simple administrative task.0 -
Just noticed an unauthorised transaction on my barclays debit account for WWW.LOUISHANNSUPPL for £250, happened the same day as I ordered a dvd from play.com and the play.com transaction hasn't appeared on my statement. However, I also bought something from Mark & Spencer the same day and the reference number for that purchase is the same as the unauthorised transaction so I'm doubly confused. Can't ring barclays (fraud department closes at 11pm so I just missed them) until tomorrow and I'm really worried that they're going to try and take something else out of my account in the meantime =/Slice the Pie challenge - £16.05/£300

Morning all,
Just wanting to post a bit of a warning really.... I received an email last night from Play.com confirming my order for 5 items totalling £50-60.
I watching Gran Torino at the cinema at the time!
After calling my bank to block the card, the details of which are 'stored safely' by play.com, and attempting to call Play (they were shut), a quick google search uncovered a raft of matching incidents..... orders being placed on infrequently used accounts by people other than the true account holders.
I would like to point out I have not clicked through from a phishing email or followed any dodgy links, plus my cards have been kept safe so goodness knows how mine & other accounts have been compromised.
So someone is fraudulently accessing accounts & presumably making small which they hope will be missed.
What REALLY gets my goat - they had an incorrect billing address & claim not to store the CV2 card number.... so how the heck was the payment authorised in the first place???
The truly ridiculous thing is, these guys have totally got away with it: Play couldn't stop the order being shipped, the police aren't interested, I just claim the money back from the bank's fraud dept.... even though I have the damn delivery address for where these illegally obtained items are going!
So - please check your accounts people - don't get in the annoyed & seething state that I am currently in!
How about posting that address up on here for the whole world to seegives you and idea

Hello!
I have joined this site just so I can comment on the play.com fraud too.
I recently came back from holiday (may 2009) to find a very poor bank balance and 3 transactions with play.com for almost £200! I tried to log into my play account but my login details had been changed. I rang play and they said yes the items had been dispatched, and that 4 other transactions were rejected (luckily because wasn't enough money in my account!) so I asked where it had gone too but they weren't allowed to tell me! But the person who hacked into my account gets to see all details about me!!!!
I have cancelled my card and fortunately got my money back, the police did not seem interested at first but it seems my goods have gone to a place in Yorkshire and 4 other people have also been done by the same person so it is getting investigated further.
I can't believe play don't email you to say your account details have been changed, and it is so easy to dispatch to another address! all my friends and family have cancelled their play accounts - if you tell the person on the phone that you want it cancelled because someone you know has had all of their money taken out it seems to work!0 -
My Debit card has expired, so will be leaving it as that0
