Free £20! Urgent, just open a savings account

I've had a couple of e-mails and four separate mailings from ING since I opened up this savings account with my £1 cheque last week. Not only that, in one of their letters they promise that 'In a few weeks time we will call you to answer any questions you may have and to ensure everything is running smoothly for you'. If I miss their call, they tell me they'll send me an update through the post.
Why do I get the (slightly uneasy) feeling that my simple £1 cheque has opened the door to constant pestering from ING via e-mail, post and 'phone? Once my £20 is credited, I think I'll be tempted to scarper off their books as fast as you can say 'Junk Mail'... How on earth are they funding this operation????Debt free since September 080 -
To be fair they are good. I have been on the phone to them (I phoned the 0800 which you can find on the site and not the 0845) and I was told that what had happend was that they were sending me the letter about the pin as the letter was sent to everyone who opened via phone or online.
There was a problem with my memorable date and they were really helpful and friendly and I would stay with them. As for the junk mail it is standard in every bank and to be fair they do have to try and market to you so that they can get some of their money back. I am sure you can ask them not to contact you.0 -
just went to open an account with them, to find out that the ofdfer has now closed.0

I opened both mine and my OH's accounts before half 11 on the 4th. The confirmation emails tooks a little while to come through but I received mine @ 11.27am and OH @ 11.30am so hopefully we still will receive the £20 offer. Neither of us have received an email confirming that we will receive the money. We do plan on using both accounts but the money will be an extra bonusExpecting first baby - 23rd January0

Annoying , i opened one , my OH opened one (female)
They cash both our cheques , send us 8 , yes 8 letters saying either thanks for opening your account or thanks for your new details we will write to the new address now ?!?!?!?

Why have they cashed my cheque without opening the account ? , i dont really understand we are both on the electorol roll etc
More hassle than its worth , ten letters !!!0 -
This is probably of interest to anyone who has recently opened an ING account: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1561765
Interest rate reduced 0.5% (in line with the base rate cut) to 2.5% AER.0 -
I got my welcome pack etc and applied when the offer was open (before 11.30am) but don't have the original email to prove it. No mention of the £20 yet but by the sounds of it, not many other have had it mentioned so fingers crossed we all get it.0

I applied about 9am and got the confirmation email soon after, then last Wednesday got another email which mentioned:
When you applied for your account, there was a cash promotion available
and provided that your account is opened and funded before 31 March 2009,
we will credit your account with £20. Feels good already doesn’t it?
A few days ago I got my welcome pack and then another letter today confirming the direct debit arrangement/bank details.
No £20 in the account as of yet.0 -
