Peabrain are you suggesting we must all now tailor our financial decisions for the good of society, rather than what is best for us individually?
If some people had done that a long while ago, then you, I and most other people wouldn't be trying to live with the mess we have.sammie383 wrote:swiftnick wrote:

Well, that's two more contestants for the "Fred the Shred's Apprentice" TV series. :rotfl:0 -
Can anyone confirm, does the cheque HAVE to come from the account you linked your application too?
I just realized the account details I included on my application, doesn't have a cheque book, so I'll have to send the £1 from an alternative.
Do you think it'll be a problem?0 -
He just said 'the funds', he didn't say what type. If anyone wants to ring and check the details, the number is 0800 376 8877 (Mon-Fri 7am-11pm, otherwise 9am-9pm). Credit to rb10 for finding the number.

Whats that supposed to mean?
20 quid to me is better than a kick in the teeth hence my reply to swift nick.
However - what "Fred the Shred" has done I do not agree with and completely disagree that he should be rewarded for his failings.
He should have got the £27 000 a year he would have if the bank had gone bust under his control! He helped it there so why should he now get the benefits?
Anyway that is totally off topic, I just didnt like you tarring me with his brush.0 -
There seems to be a mistaken belief amongst some in society that you can't benefit society as a whole and look after yourself at the same time. Consider businesses, they are set up (generally) to make money but in doing so they generate wealth for the economy as a whole, create jobs etc.
The mistake the banks made was not that they were looking out for their own interests, it was that they were taking short term views. If they looked at some of the decisions they were making from a longer term perspective they would have realised that some of what they were doing probably wasn't in the interests of the company, them personally, and so ultimately society in general.
Banks and other businesses don't need to consider society first in order to provide benefits to us. If they'd simply considered what was in the interests of the company and its shareholders then they'd have not acted so recklessly and had the impact it has had on the wider economy.0 -
Really it looks like greedy children in the playground. These offers would always rely on not having a huge take-up. Posting the information on sites like this will bring about the inevitable early closure of the scheme. We are in an economic situation now which was brought about by people living beyond their means, or beyond their entitlement. Even if these offers are made, it is hardly a responsible attitude greedily chasing after them. What on earth did people expect to happen?
Truth hurts sometimes. :rotfl:
I actually didn't take this offer up, so it makes no odds to me... however I do think it is very hypocritical for anybody who takes up any offer on this site to then criticize others for doing the same thing, purely because this offer comes from a bank.Lost lbs =

Tell it to the people who had the power to do something about the state of our society, such as the Government and the Banks.
The rest of us are very much at their mercy. I now cannot afford to care about anyone other than me and mine. Selfish? Perhaps so. Practical? Without a doubt.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I suppose those of us who have been admonished for taking up this offer should ask Peabrain if he would take up a 'buy one, get one free' offer at the supermarket. Surely that will dent the profit of the supplier as they usually have to supply the extra goods at their expense.0

I hope it's not always like this on MSE. People who complain about others taking on offers ... look where you are, what on Earth do you expect?
Firstly we have this guy moaning about how sad we are to apply for a new bank account, whilst also doing the same thing on 2-for-1 vouchers and also spending a couple of hours protecting his ego after everyone quite rightly so jumps on him. Then we have someone arguing about the ethics of taking up the offer.
It's simple. The offer is made without any special restriction. Customers take it. The end.0 -

Ask if you want. No I don't, not since I found out it was the producer who had to supply the goods, not the Tescos et al.
I didn't bother with this ING offer either.Tell it to the people who had the power to do something about the state of our society, such as the Government and the Banks.Firstly we have this guy moaning about how sad we are to apply for a new bank account,
ClaireDC, I agree with the point you were making.0
