Free £20! Urgent, just open a savings account

I did not see that's what he was saying. I read it as commenting on opening a bank account purely for the benefit of obtaining £20 for the price of £1, without any intention of using it as a longer term saving facility.
ClaireDC, I agree with the point you were making.supermankelly wrote: »No offense but why on earth would someone go to the effort of opening an account for £20!?? I wish my life was that boring I would waste my time doing such a thing. Or maybe not. lol0 -
Ask if you want. No I don't, not since I found out it was the producer who had to supply the goods, not the Tescos et al.
ClaireDC, I agree with the point you were making.
Even if it was Tescos etc that picked up the bill for supplying the extra goods, the bill has to be picked up by somebody. I'm sure the likes of Heinz etc are doing ok, and would not participate in the buy one get one free offers if they weren't able to afford to do so.
What I'm trying to say is that whilst you say that you don't take up buy one get one free offers in supermarkets because it is the producer who has to pick up the bill for them by supplying more products at the same cost (I didn't realise this was the case myself though); it seems that you'd be ok if it was Tescos picking up the bill for the offer... I don't see the difference in the 2? Somebody has to take the hit!
What if you wanted 2 of a certain item when you went in store, and it just happened that they were on BOGOF at the time, would you refuse this? Maybe pay in 2 separate transactions to avoid this?
Where does your conscience (or whatever it is that is making you feel this way) begin and end on these kinds of things?Lost lbs =
Gained £s = Quidco £261.90, Free Fivers £22.26, Matched Betting0 -
Oh good grief - the misplaced moralising here! I took out a Co-operative Bank Account for £100, I am now in the process a couple of months later, of moving to Abbey for £100. But actually, I've found I like Co-op and will probably move back to them. Isn't that what this is all about? You fulfil the terms and conditions and the Company hopes you will stay with them.
So, of course, I've gone for the £20, just as I went with £20 Quidco cashback for the Egg Money account, which is now my favourite card/savings. I've also gone for £20 cashback (via Quidco) with A&L - why should the direct cashback via ING be different from that via an affiliate company and Quidco.
The fact that the offer was closed was probably not due to the fast run on the account, but that the numbers had been reached.

It would only apply if I wanted 2. If I don't wan't 2 I don't buy 2. If Tescos want to give something away that's their choice, if they are effectively giving someone elses goods away that can make the producers business unsustainable. I am not thinking of big corporations but more of the smaller producers. What if you wanted 2 of a certain item when you went in store, and it just happened that they were on BOGOF at the time, would you refuse this? It would be better to have a price reduction as that would not encourage waste. Then if someone wants only one, they don't get dragged into buying two.0 -

Have you ever worked in retail, or for a supplier to retailers?
Both price reductions and BOGOF are promotional items which allow for a price level to be maintained with occasional dips to encourage sales. In addition, the supplier may probably have to pay for advertising their products via the retailers' own advertising and often also for shelf space (aisle ends etc). In return the supplier gets increased volumes with consequent increased market share. BOGOF encourages sales - it's just a tool which suppliers are a party to - and which helps the suppliers to move their product (which helps with their fixed costs) with hopefully repeat sales and ongoing customer loyalty.

I opened one of these accounts this morning but I have also received a letter from ING telling me of the same offer. They have given me a promotional code to enter. www.ingdirect.co.uk and the promotional code to enter in the box is ING376.
I don't know if it works or not but it might be worth a try.

When your details are checked with a credit reference agency they may or may not be able to confirm you are who you say you are and that you live where you say you do (based on the information they hold). If they don't have enough data to support one or both of these things then documentary evidence is required as proof.0 -

This is Tree Hugging gone mad!!! I agree with previous point: it seems strange that you would be happy to use BOGOF if Tesco took hit but not another organisation. Does this mean you also refuse to purchase Tesco own brands as this would be taking away sustainable income away from the other suppliers??0 -
Well the offer was on when I opened the account just checked the balance the £20 not gone in. The word con comes to mind.0
