I've not been offered anything yet. I'll await my letter. Shame, as I liked my card - and it offered me the best cashback on my spend. Ah well, back to Amex.0

They say that earned cashback will be transferred to the replacement card.
Not sure what happens if you close the Accucard to stop the replacement being issued; I don't want a Lloyds TSB card."A poor life this, if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare"

I have just received the approval for a Morgan Stanley platinum card. So a quick phone call to Lloyds TSB saying I don't want their card, and hello Morgan Stanley. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

You need to take the new card and keep it until the end of June and then any earned cashback will be paid then (earlier than it would have been otherwise). If you don't let them send you the new card then you just lose any outstanding cashback.
Let them send it, keep it for a month, use the credit it up and then ditch it, in the meantime though start using some other casback card. Otherwise you're just throwing money away0 -
Thought you may find this interesting.
I've had an AMEX blue card for a while now, and thought it was time to change. So I phoned them up asking to cancel my account
When I was transferred to cancellations I explained I wanted to cancel (partly because they didn't get a replacement card to me after it was stolen on holiday, and the better deals out there), they apologised and said this should not of happened, and to keep my business they offered me the new joiners deal of double cashback for 3 months. so this now makes the AMEX blue a good deal for me as I plan to go out and make a 2k purchase this week. So I'll have 3 months at 2% follwed by 1% for the remainder of the year.
Thats me happy for the next year, hope this is usefull to some of you.0 -
Damm, the shop i'm going to spend 2k with this week won't accept amex.0

Thomas cook operates a good cash back card if you book package holidays. They give you 2.5% cash back on all purchases in Thomas Cook. The cashback can only be used against future THomas Cook purchases but if you get the price as low as it will go with Thomas Cook then its a good saving.
you get 1.5% cash back on all other purchases.
You also save on the booking fee normally 2% if you pay with your TC card when booking holiday0 -
Just some polite warnings to anyone going for either of the recommended cards below:
AmEx:
Hardly accepted anywhere. I do a lot of online shopping and it is accepted about 1/3 times. In the High Street it is also only accepted about 1/2 times. Worse still it is regularly 'declined' by shops that apparently accept it, including Starbucks, Pizza Hut, etc. I have never had this happen before and when I queried with AmEx they claimed the transactions had never even reached them. A 2nd card didn't help. My 'backup' Visa card therefore gets hit for about £600 a month, out of a usual £1,500 a month spend.
You also can't use it to pay your mortgage, bills, council tax, etc. so your effective 2% becomes about 0.5% I reckon.
Oh, and their call centre is in India if that bothers anyone.
Egg:
Beware, they are probably the only major bank who don't offer statement downloads, for importing into packages like Microsoft Money. In this day and age that is imperitive for me. I see it has been requested on discussion groups since 1999 but Egg seem to not want to listen. I only realised after receiving my card, and promptly cancelled it!
Morgan Stanley:
Effectively becomes 0.5% in a few months. Do we really want the hassle of changing again then?
Surely there's a Visa/MasterCard out there that stays at at least 1% for the forseeable future, with none of this promotional rate nonsense, and belongs in the 21st century by offering statement downloads? Anyone?
Thanks!
