OK, first did this about 4 years ago after reading MSE with Amex Blue (2% for 3 months then 1%), and Easymoney mastercard(1%)for backup.
Easymoney has since dropped to 0.5% (lazy me, but I have little trouble with with Amex acceptance as much of my spend is corporate on hotels so I didn't bother). Other lazy Easymoney people should know by now that the Easymoney replacement card is a Lloyds one with no cashback :( so that's that one going [at end of june, as posted above, to get my cashback]. looks like to Egg.

The other bit of possibly useful info for anyone reviewing is that as my annual spend is over 9K I rang Amex and asked if they could upgrade my Amex Blue to a platinum without re-applying / closing old card. Nice Indian guy said "yes, no problem, but as anniversary and cashback is [shortly] I wouldnt want to do that before the anniversary and lose my cashback from this year". Well good on him, I reckon :) I now have a plan (and an Egg application)(and an Amex upgrade immediately after my anniversary).

Anyway, I haven't seen what sort of card Egg is - Mastercard ? Visa ?

The guy you spoke with was wrong. You have to make a new application for a Platinum Credit Card. Depending on your limit on the blue card and your credit score they may offer you a small limit on a Platinum Card of say £700 and transfer the rest of the limit from Blue to Platinum or they may give you a separate big limit.

    Thanks & good fortunes!
  • so then I will use the GE card for fuel and food and my citibank 1% flat rate for everything else (I dont think Citibank are doing the 1% deal for new customers anymore though - only maintain it for existing customers)

3% off fuel is near enough a saving of 3p per litre

Morgan Stanley Offering 2% but not for long!

1% thereafter which is about as good as it gets unless you want to use AMEX which I gave up with as so many places say NO we don't take it!

    Above link gives details.

The Morgan Stanley* card pays 1% on all spending up to the first £2,000 a year and then 0.5% after that. Yet it commonly runs an introductory ‘double cashback’ offer, for the first four-ish months. This doubling cashback means at up to 2% cashback it outperforms the flat rate cards for those spending less than £5,000 in the first year. After that those spending £2,000 a year plus should consider switching to another card.
