Mine has a weekly clean & a quick clean.
The weekly clean, I squirt loo cleaner inside the bowl under the rim to coat the insides. Then I spray all remaining areas with Cif bathroom spray (the white one).
I do something else, then come back to it & use a loo brush (I buy the 50p ones from Tesco/Asda in bulk & change monthly) to scrub the bowl & a little scrubby (you know the cheapy things you do the wash up with, you can get 5 for 15p in Tesco (I think) & chuck after, to wash every where else, seat, lid, top, sides, etc.
Then I keep the look cleaner & loo wipes in undersink cupboard for quick mid week washes.0 -
I put bleach or powerful loo cleaner down at least once a week - seat is done about twice a week with anti bac spray and toilet paper which is then flushed away.
If anybody left the toilet 'dirty' there would be hell to pay - ex was disgusting and would leave !!!! in the bowl _pale_ and used to get an earbashing regularly... Mind you... he was a complete pig and I stopped doing any of his washing (and we had separate washing baskets) once I found his boxers complete with skids _pale_ Needless to say we didn't last long after that.
I'm just off to soak my brush in the bowl along with bleach now0 -
I think a lot depends whether you are in a hard water area. I live in an area that means the kettle needs an overnight cup of vinegar once a fortnight! The limescale fight round here is a constant one!
I give the loo a daily "swish and swipe" with the loo brush and a red (well faded to pink cloth now), just to keep it fresh. Cheap value toilet cleaner is used for this. The loo brush & cloth sits in bleach/zoflora/tea tree or thyme oil solution - again depending of what's to hand that day. The bleach/whatever solution is changed daily. (use an old icecream tub for storing the cloth) I think for the daily clean it's more important the bowl gets a quick scrub with a loo brush to stay on top of limescale build up than the specific product used tbh. Peeps in softwater areas may not have the same issue. Scummy as it sounds I didn't used to do a swish and swipe more than a couple of times a week before my little boy got old enough to use the grown up toilet. Sober adults should be able to use a toilet leaving it pleasant for the next person!
Once a week I chuck a value denture tablet (30p for a pack of 30) down it and leave to soak over night. I also squirt round under the rim with a propetrietry anti -limescale cleaner and leave that overnight. the whole thing then gets a "proper scrub" in the morning.
If anyone in the household is ill then cheap bleach is left to soak in the loo overnight, every night, every single night until they are better. I'm not keen on the overuse of bleach for environmental reasons but it's hard to beat for infection control. Individual towels and proper handwashing with ol fashioned soap and water are also important.
If anyone moves into a home where the loo is brown & crusty with limescale, chuck a whole tube of denture tablets down and leave overnight then scrub HARD the next day, Rinse and repeat the following day. You should find the worst loo can be sparkling white again after a few nights of this at minimal cost.0 -
I have a loo brush and a tall holder - know the type I mean? It was a value one from T's for about a pound I think.0

I keep a plastic spray bottle (a re-used old one obviously!) containing 50/50 disinfectant/water next to the loo. Once a day , I just spray every surface and wipe off. Job done in seconds! For proper OS, keep a dedicated cloth for wiping, or use loo roll & flush away if you prefer.0

Blue for the loo. Pink for the sink.0 -
Please tell the cheapest way? Are these toilet cleaners you buy necessary> is bleach enough?:footie:0

IMO bleach is enough. Just find one that you like it's odor.
You can check the chemical makeup of a popular one as a reference - you'll find out that they are all very similar.No trees were harmed in the posting of this message;
However, a significant number of electrons were slightly inconvenienced.0 -
Nothing kills a toilet quicker than bleach. It eats away at the enamel and makes the toilet more 'sticky' and gives the germs a place to live.
Get stuck in with a little bathroom cleaner, then flush afterwards.0 -
Hi red devil,
I use bleach and a brush and the loos look as good as new even though they are 20 years old.
This thead has more ideas:

I'll add this thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together,
