How do you clean a toilet?

I rarely use bleach but try to stick with eco friendly options, including vinegar.
Did occour to me tho' that if the Duck disc was stuck on the near side rather than the far side then no one would be able to aim at it!0 -
I have a pack of wipes for cleaning the seat etc, and then I use own brand thick bleach every few days or as needed with the brush. Seems to be fine for us.0

No, not even thatWe all use the brush when needed, and I give a good scrub under the rim every week or 2. I use descaler or bleach when i need to, but there's no need for anything every day
I'll add this to the existing thread on cleaning the loo.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

I use a good dose of yelling actually. If I go through and find the loo in a mess because of male inaccuracy I go and round up the likely culprit(s), escort them to the bathroom and hand them the cleaning materials. I did this from about age 3 with my sons...just a rag and water of course or the loo brush, but my feeling is that if it came out of them it isn't going to hurt them to clean it up as long as they wash their hands. Now there's teenagers + Dad I'm perfectly happy to hand them the full arsenal of cleaning materials. I wasn't put on this planet to do the equivelent of changing nappies for fully or nearly fully grown men after all. There's no reason on earth not to be able to use a loo neatly...if a teenager or man says that they really can't aim that reliably 100% of the time, remind them it's either sit down, aim better or clean it up.Val.0 -

In my attempts to save money/cut back on needless spending I am now looking at the loo (not literally lol!) I usually use the likes of Duck toilet cleaner as a daily cleaner (usually manage to get it on special) but I am going to try the Tesco Value one this week, at 24p it sounds a bargain and surely they all do the same job - just maybe smell a bit different or different colours.

Hi, I currently use Smart Price Toilet Cleaner at about 24p as well, seems to work fine.
I can well imagine that those duck discs are costing you a fortune, and IMHO no you don't need to spend your money on things like that. I mean lets face it, we only use washing up liquid on things we are going to eat our dinner off0 -
Use 'Bugs Away' a spray cleaner from ALdi which is great for outside the loo cistern and handles etc.
Bleach down the loo each day.
Never used a toilet brush, would be sick if I had to.
Gross job but someone has to do it.:eek:0 -
Hmmm loo cleaning....
Cistern block goes in once a month or so.....every week it's in with the loo cleaning cloth....rinse it out, hot water, then cistern, lid down, lid up, the rim, then loo cleaner around the rim and left for a bit.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

Wow feel very inadequate now.
Bit of bleach about once a month. Brush when dirty and leave the brush in during the following flush.
Seat etc wiped with some loo roll and hot soapy water then flushed away every so often. Don't really get stomach upsets in the family so I don't know if that is luck or judgement. If some one is sick (which doesn't even happen once every 2 or 3 years - luckily) I use alcohol wipes to clean surfaces.
TBH I find hand hygiene the most useful tool. Wash, wash, wash. Any old soap and a reasonable amount of water.Put the kettle on.0 -
my OH prefers to pee sitting down as its more comfy so i dont have to deal with messes that often, although when his friend stayed and sprayed the loo, i went mad that i had to clean up after him. I did thank OH for sitting down to pee after that though:rotfl:
i dont s&s the loo every day, i bleach down the loo a couple of times a week last thing at night (and will be stopping that when my supply has ran out as it doesnt make a difference that i can see) and if anyone has an upset stomach they deal with it then and there. we do use a loo brush but its only used occasionaly as i prefer the hand down the loo with a bit of tissue method. i do keep a pair of marigolds in the bathroom only for that though.
it gets a proper clean once a week which takes about 5 mins with the steam cleaner.0
