Please can someone help me and tell me what is the best way to clean a toilet. Mainly i guess the seats etc. What cloths do you use what product. I really don't have a clue and have been using various things but i wondered what other people did.
I was also wondering how often should you clean the toilet?
I have done a search but couldn't find what i was looking for.
Thanks all for help.

Personally I use some toilet paper and a spray of antibac cleaner on and under the seat every day. Cloths for cleaning the toilet make me feel ill0
-
I squirt bleach down there and use cleaning wipes for the outside bits.
Never used a loo brush before (yucksville!) and my toilet is seriously spotless (no limescale, no dirt, no nothing).
I clean it a couple of times a week.
Life is too short to be following post #2 "One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I swish and swipe every day; I spray top, seats, lid and outside bowl with anti bac and wipe down; cloths soak in disinfectant or bleach in a small lidded bucket under the sink; I clean inside the bowl with a toilet brush which I bleach and replace regularly; Wilkinsons sell them (cost about 70p last time I bought, I get several at a time); its cheaper and greener than throw away pads, wipes or whatever.
I do this after my morning bathroom session, it takes about 4 minutes and there's no real need for a deep clean. If I moved house and 'inherited a toilet' then I would follow post #2 a few times till I was happy it was clean. *(sorry post 2 had to be removed for copyright reasons, see post 7)
I also wipe the shower down whilst I'm in it, easy to rinse cleaner off when you're already wet... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I just squirt some bleach around the toilet underneath the rim, leave it to sit for a few minutes then use a loo brush to clean inside the bowl. Then I run some damp loo roll around the seat and the top of the rim. When the loo roll gets dirty, just drop it into the pan and get a new bit.
Doesn't take a moment. I do it every few days as and when the toilet looks a bit grubby. I try and clean the inside of the bowl regularly using just the toilet brush as and when it gets dirty.
However, I would like to know how everyone keeps their loo brush clean. I leave it to sit in the bleachy water in the loo for a wee while when I clean the loo, but it's still quite grimy, as it's holder.Freebies: Nov - £5 Habitat voucher; Dec - £5 Amazon voucher, mini bottle of Glavya

I have a china brush holder which is easy to wash and disinfectant; the brush I do as you, leave it sitting in bleach in the bowl, usually leave it there for the whole morning but I live alone so things are simpler!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Sorry everyone,
But I've had to remove a post from this thread for copyright reasons. You can still read the article here: Do you know how to clean a toilet right?

I used to have one of those harpic power brush thingys, but it eventually wore out and I couldn't get another one, so I'm currently using a loo brush and bleach for the toilet bowl. At the moment I'm using antibacterial wipes for the seat and around the handle, and for the more general outside areas of the loo.
I soak the loo brush in the bleachy water too, but I've got into the habit of replacing them every six months - they're only £1 from my local cheap shop.0 -
I have a loo brush and a tall holder - know the type I mean? It was a value one from T's for about a pound I think.
The brush lives in a slightly watered down pine disinfectant solution. Again, the value stuff at about 24p.
I brush the inside of the bowel every day to prevent staining and to get rid of the inevitable marks before they set like concrete. I flush with the brush in the bowl if I have had to clean off something nasty. A couple of times a week I get a wipe and do the lid, seat, hinges and outside - fluff seems to accummulate.
Periodically I put down a couple of denture cleaning tablets overnight.
There's only two of us and DH is quite a good aim so this is enough to prevent having to do a deep clean too often.0 -

That's one way to keep the toilet clean! :rotfl:0 -
I read on a German forum about a woman who went to her neighbour's for coffee and saw that the neighbour washed her toilet brush IN THE DISHWASHER WITH ALL THE POTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She didn't drink the coffee and has avoided invitations ever since.
I use toilet paper with a squirt of cleaner on the seat and outside bits, and a cheap and regularly replaced brush with a squirt of cleaner in the bowl. I do it every couple of days and it always looks fine. However I've no kids at home now and my OH is reasonably well trained...0
