How do you clean a toilet?

I saw an episode of Cleanaholics where a girl used to scrape the limescale of the inside of her loo with a teaspoon. It was bad enough it was a spoon but the scraping noise did my head in. I've seen Kim (of Kim and Aggie) scrub it with a pumice stone.
I've never had limescale. Is it really bad to get rid of? My kettle is almost 10 years old and has no 'fur' in it. I'm just bragging cos we have soft water.0 -
It's easy to get rid of, just dilute vinegar 50% with water and boil the kettle. Then rince the kettle very thoroughly. In a toilet, regular use of bleach will sort it out. Of, if it's a very bad case and you want to get rid of it quickly, soak toilet paper in vinegar and plaster the paper all over the toilet . Leave for a couple of hours.
edit: I forgot, it's important to boil the kettle outside, otherwise your house will smell like a chippy.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

To clean a grubby bowl just empty the water out and refill with a 2ltr bottle of cheap Cola. Leave overnight and it will be as new in the morning.Middlers0

I use wipes around the cistern, handle, lid and seat. Then I squirt some Bio-D environmentally friendly cleaner around the bowl and into the water and scrub with a brush.
How do people without brushes clean the bottom of the water? Toilet roll would go soggy.0 -

I just turn the water off on the toilet and flush. That empties the toilet.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I can't believe how often people clean their loos! Admittedly there's just me and OH and no kids, but ours only needs doing every 1-2 weeks - although now I'm a fly lady it gets done once a week. Never once been ill, people are far far far too scared of germs.Everything will be ok in the end, if everything's not ok then it's not the end0

I don't understand, how will turning the water off before you flush empty the toilet bowl? The water in the cistern would still flush, and leave the same amount of water in the bowl as normal.
The best way I know of emptying the bowl is to push the water out with the brush.0 -

I agree. If you keep trying to kill germs your body's immune system gets weak and can't fight any germs that do slip through.
Also, you can't kill all, the toughest ones always survive. And when they do they only have tough germs to bread with.
Maybe that's why the place that tries the hardest to kill germs always has the toughest germs!0 -

How does it do that then?
It would empty the cistern so you couldn't flush again, but there would still be just as much water down the toilet as normal that hadn't been forced over the u bend?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I understand where you are coming from, but a dirty toilet is not socially acceptable in any house.
If you are going to live with germs, then all well and good, but at least get rid of the ones in your bog."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
