Sorry to resurrect this....
D has had another palpitation episode, unrelated to drugs...as I have been watching him (carefully, but not obsessively) 24/7 since he moved back home. He came though this evening about half an hour ago, said his heart felt like it was about to explode out of his chest, and it also felt like there was a bird trapped behind his ribcage, fluttering, and he felt faint. He is fine now.
Does anyone know if this could be related to his recent speed use, albeit weeks ago, and should I be getting him to Casualty.
Thanks
Maybe hes having panic attacks?0 -
I hope it is something as simple as that (without negating the horror of panic attacks) ...as I'm fixated on the possibility he has damaged his heart or something. He has another appointment with the doc soon, and he will mention it then. I just wondered if it was something I should be concerned about tonight (although I just checked, and he is fine)
Thanks

Call NHS direct, explain the back ground and current issue ..tonight.

EDit: fwiw I wouldn't ask health advice here, they don't looks well on it, but NHS direct are very good and kind and my first port of call for lots of things.0 -

Please please get this checked out ! look at this website https://www.c-r-y.org.uk.
Insist on an ECG.Any fainting , palpitations etc in a young person should be checked for an unknown heart defect. I know from experience that ignoring it can have tragic consequences.0 -
Thank you so much, and I am so sorry you have had experience of what sounds like something horrible.
D has had no more palpitation episodes, and has an appointment with the same GP he saw last week on Monday at 9am. I will go with him and insist on an ECG. Thank you.Life.

Hi all
Don't want to ressurect this, but just hate it when you follow a thread and the OP doesn't keep up to date.
Just wanted to let those following know that D had his appointment on Monday, had more bloods taken, and I went in with him and sat silent while he discussed his palpitations with the GP. He had an ECG with the nurse, and then we waited till he went back in to the GP to discuss the findings. It was completely normal.
He has not touched anything stronger than the occasional beer since he moved back home, and has been eating normal meals and seems to be almost back to his usual self. He was allowed out last weekend but his curfew was 12.00, and OH picked him up which did nothing for his credibility with his pals. Have not seen or heard from the GF, although I suppose they are texting, but at least it shows he is considering our feelings (that he has not insisted on her coming here as he has done in the past.)
Having a 'subdued' D in the house has been a revelation to us, especially OH who is finding this new personality somewhat easier to get on with!! Long may it continue.Life.
