for the informed we know that the concept of installing what is basically a rootkit to prevent a rootkit is not a good idea.

first, the system is not open to peer review. second the updates are always going to be reactionary - a flawed system like virus scanners and thirdly you have to trust the bank and trusteer with your computer. and forth, they have to reprogram the system for android, symbian, chinese version phones or whatever happens in the future.

proper banks give you a card with single use password grid for 2 factor authentication.

i expect trusteer have a good marketing dept and well connected to the right people
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

I also have had nothing but problems since i downloaded Rapport software from Natwest.

I installed it a couple of years ago for HSBC, and had endless problems back then. It doesn't sound like it's improved since then. I opened a support tracker with HSBC and it got no where. They would admit how crap it was.

It is used to prevent keylogging and screen capture attacks.

@jago25_98 suggesting that people run systems without antivirus protection is an incredibly dumb idea as modern versions of antivirus software combine the traditional signature based model with a hosted service that streams updates.

I don't work for either trusteer or an AV firm but I do support software for a living and have also provided assistance to friends and neighbours, some of whom have followed the advice that AV is not required from either their offspring that 'know about computers' because they can play an Xbox or Playstation or from a self styled IT expert.

The viruses arrive on their systems via downloads performed by said offspring which then proceed to completely trash their operating system install which is of course usually Windows.

I then get a knock on the door when it will no longer boot or becomes completely unstable.

I then normally have to spend a couple of hours zero filling the disk (the only real way to ensure the infection is vanquished when it takes hold on a system) then reinstalling Windows and required drivers.

  • I have been using Rapport for several years to protect my logins to 10 or more secure banking websites, both in the UK and elsewhere. Never had any sort of problem with it.

My only objection to it is that the weekly report it provides has very little information about what it has blocked. It just says "blocked x attempts to do such and such" by an unnamed programme or process, usually followed by a phrase on the lines of "this can be caused by malware but you dont need to do anything". It would be much more useful to me if it gave full details about what it blocks, especially about the process name that made the attempt.
  • I agree with annie12. I tried rapport and screwed up my computer. they keep asking if I want to download it and I politely(of course) refuse. Normal anti-virus and common sense is fine. We are not the only ones having problems with it; you might be interested to read the link http://www.computing.net/answers/security/rapport-security-software-avoid-using-it/28295.html

People quite happily load what I can only describe as marketing crapware such as toolbars which causes issues with legitimate software, not just rapport.
