Millions of online banking customers are at risk of fraud because of a “fundamental” flaw in key security software, The Times has learnt."
What is the 'flaw'?
Where was this reported and who did the research?

I have had a computer crashing several times, so seriously it even got returned top PC World to try to fix the fault. After removing Trusteer Rapport problems appear to have gone away.
One thing I have noticed in this and other blog threads is the number of 64bit machines that are having a problem with this software. Maybe a 64 bit compatiblity issue here?0 -
I haven't noticed any problems with Windows 7 64-bit and Rapport.0

:think:Everyone seems concerned about how this software affects their operating systems etc, but no-one seems to worry about the big picture. Why are all our banks putting such reliance on software that is developed in a foreign state which is not only a nuclear power but is at war with its neighbours? Who is doing the checks that this software is not a trojan horse in the true sense that canl bring our whole banking system to its knees at the whim of a foreign power?

Hello all
I run my own Computer Services business here in Peebles. I am frequently called out to deal with slow PCs. Whilst there are many reasons for slow running (insufficient RAM, too many programmes running at start-up) there are common threads.
Internet protection consists of a firewall and an antivirus programme, either free or paid for. Make sure that the AV prog is updated and set to scan, not just wait for things to go wrong. I would also back this up with an antimalware programme such as Malwarebytes, updated and run monthly as an independent check that your primary protection is doing its job. Remember: no AV programme is 100% effective.
One of the things I've noticed is the slowing of systems caused by Rapport whilst browsing the internet. If you have it installed, you can switch it off by going to Start > Programmes > Rapport > Stop Rapport, then browsing and seeing if it makes a difference.
Quick aside - Norton used to be a resource hog. From around 2010, their products are amongst the best, especially 360 as it does all the routine jobs that every PC user should be doing. I find AVG is the resource hog now, especially on older machines running XP (till 8th April 2014).
My recommendation is that if you have adequate security installed, Rapport is more of a hindrance and can be removed.
All the best

I like trusteer. The only issue is the key logging feature which caused problems entering my pass codes on my 2x banks websites and others like paypal. Since disabling that feature its fine. I fine the huge array of cookies that appear cause the most problems with speed, which clearing every time you close the browser helps. Plus all the extensions you have to install that block tracking, auto opt out and block ads slows down the internet a bit.0

For those customers that bank with Barclays, you can get Kaspersky internet security suite for free.
Log on to your account click the products tab then under the solutions bit you will see Kaspersky offer. Click this then follow the links you will then get sent a code that will give you free 12 months internet security for your PC, There's also an option for Mac users too.
Once your 12 months is up you can again do as above and renew it for free for the next 12 months.
No I don't work for Barclays before you ask!!Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Trusteer is a threat.
The threat is that it becomes so ubiquitous there is no or less options to not use it with UK banks.
Decent banks (think the Swiss) use "2 factor authentication" such as a plastic card with a grid of single use passwords you can use in addition to your normal password.
Others make use of those little card calculator things that you have to use anyway to make a new transfer request.
More than that, Google Authenticator is free and is now being used for some money transfer services. You can even use it for your own services.
So what is Trusteer all about?
Well, there is not much way to tell exactly what it does but it does route everything you type through it and
1) the license agreement makes no guarentees as to what happens with that info.
2) you have an additional point of failure for a virus to hijack Trusteer itself
3) it can also mess up anti virus
4) If it ever become mandatory it can tie you to Windows. No more checking your balance with Linux or your backup old Nokia Symbian phone.
So now you're educated.
Now for the tinfoil hat conspiracy theories. I wager that Trusteer had to bribe or cut some kind of deal with the banks in order to get this level of success. How else would such a company be successful otherwise in such as massive industry? There has to be additional motive here. The next stage is for Trusteer to be mandatory and it will be used as evidence against you, going way beyond what you thought it was for. Paranoia or cynicism guided by occums razor?Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0 -
I am writing this because I am ANGRY. I downloaded the Rapport Security Programme from the Nat West site in the middle of December. Shortly afterwards I was experiencing serious problems with my computer but didn't link the two. When I switched the machine on my modem would crash and it would take around 2 HOURS for the machine to function at all. I am not an expert in technology and put it down to the bad weather (unbelievable I know if you are a technical expert!). I suffered all over Christmas and today I decided I must contact Virgin Cable to ask them what to do when it suddenly popped into my mind that if I removed this program it might sort out my problem. It has. I have suffered so much. I am struggling with life and this has caused me real problems and upset. How dare Nat West do this. You cannot trust anyone at all any more. I hope this may help someone else.
Anne
I also have had nothing but problems since i downloaded Rapport software from Natwest.0
