NatWest - Trusteer Rapport

I've been reading on the web that some problems people are having when they install rapport may be down to it's compatibility with programs already on their PC. If you decide you want rapport check out this page first: consumers.trusteer.com/compatibility-other-security-software. The message seems to be 'keep it simple'. It seems to be ok with most of the well-known widely used antiviruses out there but advanced PC users with more obscure (and perhaps more effective?) downloads could find it clashes with them.
I'm not sure about Rapport I'm reading mixed reviews (including this thread) I guess the jury is still out. However if the banks are advocating it and then later it is hacked surely they would share some of the responsibility? They will have missold something that claims to be secure and isn't. It is in their interest surely to promote the best security available since it would appear they themselves have a lot to lose if they get it wrong. Anyone got any thoughts on this?0 -
Oops sorry, just tried link as I wrote it and didn't get to site. Tap 'rapport compatibility' into Google and click on 'compatibility with other security software/Trusteer'. That's how I originally found it. Tells you which antiviruses are compatible with Rapport.0

I have used Rapport for some months.
The first time I tried it I downloaded from First Direct to my XP machine. Basically it didn't work properly, had a lot of overheads and it would not shut down properly. I reloaded some months later from RBS and it works ok. I loaded it from RBS on a Vista machine with Mcafee and have had no problems.
I have a concern in that every time you use it it reports back to Trusteer which I don't think can be turned off.
Long term I get the sneaking suspicion that all banks will insist we use it otherwise they won't accept any questions about on-line fraud.
Also routing a growing amount of online banking traffic through Rapport must make it a target as well ?0 -

I agree with your view that such software, if not Rapport, will become obligatory and I see it as benefiting the user anyway. People are loathe to take on new technology - it took years for people to accept there was a need to block outbound traffic to the Internet and years for people to accept a need for antivirus software. This is nothing new, people in general are just unaware that security doesn't stop with the installation of AV and antispyware. Until the product is deemed stable though, takeup will be resisted.
Routing banking traffic through Rapport? It doesn't work like that to my understanding. Trusteer investigate attempts to thwart the protection and Rapport performs a number of local functions on your PC - however, Trusteer themselves don't operate as a proxy to the banking sites (or any other site you manually choose to protect). You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
I tried Rapport but it was hopeless. It made my computer run very slowly, it would crash, and my browser would not shut down properly. I had none of these problems before. I use norton antivirus, internet explorer and AOL.
The only good thing about Rapport is that it is very easy to turn off and everything is back to normal.0 -
Trusteer Rapport sofware has major problems... you should uninstall it immediately if you do have it installed.
If you want to get good free programs to secure your laptop/workstation, there is always good and reliable advice here -> (mmm not allowed to post URL's ... do a google search on techsupportalert )
In fact there is just about every type of program you could want ... all free ... don't rely on the banks any more than you have to!0 -

If you say so but other than occasionally picking up a phrase I don't really want it to pick up, I'd hardly know it was there. And no unexplained crashes or go slows.
And given that it is pushed by my bank, wobetide them if it doesn't do its job.0 -
Flaw in software puts online savers at risk -> (link to articles not allowed)
"Expert says that it is ‘almost inevitable’ crooks will take advantage of ‘flaw’
Millions of online banking customers are at risk of fraud because of a “fundamental” flaw in key security software, The Times has learnt."0 -
I installed it months ago, no problems whatsoever. I don't think you can knock it when this post just shows that so many people have had no problems at all. It obviously depends on whats already on your PC/laptop. I use AVG, don't believe in paying for anti virus products, have had 2 laptops and 2 pc's and have only ever had one virus ! AVG identified and removed it.0

That's two posts within a month where you say there are problems with Rapport but have not made a very good attempt to identify the link.
Just because you are a newish member who is not yet allowed to post a link, you can post the website address, just leave off the "www" or put a space in the address, I think other members will be able to amend it so that the link works
By the way, I have had Rapport installed since it was launched a few years ago I seem to remember, never had any major issues with itThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
