Im curious as he makes such a big thing of the charity donation and gives figures etc.
I mean the site is all registered to an accountants in manchester. So what company is running this site???????0 -
That's very unfair. If you don't like what Wise Old Investor is saying, that's one thing; to equate his posts with Alvin Hall? That's quite another.
Just a joke - didn't mean to offend. It's just that Martin seems to be stealing Alvin's crown as the Moneysaving guru on telly, so I thought it would be funny to suggest that WOI was really Alvin. No harm meant. xx0 -
Amazing... The guy puts his name on the site, you can ask for his accounts from companies house if you want and you imply he might be "hiding stuff"? You seriously think he'd try and "hide" revenue from the site to "cream" it off for himself? :rotfl:
He's ALWAYS been open about how he earns his money - he's never put numbers to those sources because he doesn't need to and frankly I'd be upset if anyone asked me to if I hadn't offered the information in conversation...
You can hide on here under an anonimus user handle and you do so free of charge - this is and always has been a private website. It's grown over the years and become a force to be reaconed with when it comes to consumer power.
If you don't like it on MSE then I am sure there are plenty of other sites you'll feel right at home on...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I have great respect for Martin and Alvin. Both have different approaches to the same issues, but both have honourable intentions :money:0 -

The figures of MSE.com and my personal income are not public though the explanation of how this site's finances are. All the info about how the site makes money is in this guide http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/moneysavingexpert-finance which is linked to from every page on the site.
As for the registered office, that is not the managing company. The company is split between me as a sole trader, and moneysavingexpert.com which i own 100% of.
This is one of the UK's top 100 websites and its income and costs are no small potatoes; it has become a sizeable business with a full time team of 23 talented individuals and rising, and the ability to cope with millions of users a month. And thankfully, as you'd expect i've run it in a way that has been profitable to me and I hope the users.
Going forward we are impacted by the recession, while traffic continues to grow, MSE funds, ultimately come a way downstream from the advertising industry; which has as everyone knows been hit. Yet its my hope that we will continue to be profitable and the reserves I've built mean the site will continue to thrive.
One thing, this note has prompted me to do though is slightly change the how is this site financed blog.
In it I say I consider myself a social entrepreneur. As I recently read an article on that, which differs from earlier reading, which defines it as non-profit. I dont feel that's accurate so to avoid any confusion, i've changed it (as the site is profitable and has been for years - something that's always been on that page) to..
"I don't want to hide the fact the site is a very substantial part of my income; and I make an extremely good living. I consider what I'm doing to be entrepreneurship with a social angle,' while the prime purpose is trying to benefit consumers at the same time, without compromising that, I hope the site continues to make very decent money, like any business (see my social entrepreneur blog).
In fact I'd love it to make me a billionaire, providing it never compromises my ethics and recommendations or cost any users a penny!"

i love how some people have nothing better to do than come on here and slate martin, hasnt this question been asked amillion times before?
as for martin creaming it in from us, im sure many people from this site have bought his book nd watch his tv programmes as well as coming on here, did martin force me to buy the book and hand over my cash? no i bought it because the man talks alot of sense and doesnt patronise us with it. i come on here for support and advice and actually now have my own buisiness as a result of this site.
so seriously get a life go ask the dragons in dragons den how much they are profiting from that programme and then after taking cuts of succesfull buisinesses. i dont see martin asking for any of mine even though its down to this site i have my buisiness.
There you go martin the final piece to your billionare estate take a cut of anyones profits who makes a life after your advice lolback to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0 -
I can't believe anybody [strike](with half a brain)[/strike] would ever question Martins intentions and honesty. I mean how ungrateful can some people be
He provides this amazing website for us, can you imagine the time, energy AND money that goes into running a website as big as this? All the hundreds of articles they have, all of them updated on a regular basis. Not to mention the forum, that must cost A LOT, I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess.
And then think about all the millions (and I do believe it's well into the millions) of people he has helped in one way or another.
And it's nobody's business what he earns, I was always brought up not to ask somebody what they earnt, it's private, but then again I clearly have more manners than you do  But you know what, I hope he's made millions, because he deserves it
OP - you are obviously very bitter about something, probably jealous of Martins success but I do wish people like you would buzz off.
He should be knighted, not bloody questioned by the likes of you. Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies

TBH, I'm pleased he DOES make a sizeable profit from the site. I wouldn't like to be seen taking the advice of somone who WASN'T making a sizeable profit. That would just be foolish!Good Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!
