why are you bothered? He is providing a service which i use and have never been asked for a penny!
  • Just curious, its nothing that isn't in the public domain. Would crack me up laughing if the man himself was creaming of 500k a year of the back of you lot.

Im curious as he makes such a big thing of the charity donation and gives figures etc.

I mean the site is all registered to an accountants in manchester. So what company is running this site???????
  • For the probably thousands of people who have derived benefit whether through advice or help to alieviate hardship either financial or emotional. For the friendships made, free advise given, general help to the wider community of users.

May I speak for everyone and say we don't care.

Should it be of importance to you then may I say "Get a life you sad old fa*t"
  • I don't care if he earns 5 million per year.

Personally, this site has saved me £thousands. It's also provided me with a nice feeling after it helped me extract £hundreds from my smug bank. The site represents "consumer revenge"; sorely needed after the big institutions have been 'creaming of' (sic) the back of us lot for the last few decades, on a scale of exploitation that is sickening.

(Not quite sure what part of the system has screwed you over, but here's hoping you get better soon.)
  • Why does it matter so much to you how much he gets? The site is free (unlike Benefits and Work) and helps so many people.

It wouldn't be 'creaming it off the back' of anybody. It doesn't cost us anything.

Well, I guess if it's a charity then it shouldn't just go into somebodys pocket.
But I pay nothing for using this site, so I don't have any axe to grind.

    Where does the money go?
The income generated goes to three main areas:
    • It pays for staff, technology and the Forum.
The money it makes goes to paying a very large server budget to cope with the hefty traffic and providing jobs for thirteen full time members of staff and a number of part-timers. It's also allowed me to pay to have MoneySaving technologies built, often just because I think they'll be fun; tools like the Budget Planner, Flight Checker, CallCheckers, RewardsChecker and Tart Alert don't generate any revenue - its one of the reasons you won't find others making them.
It also goes to finance the Forum which takes huge resources because it's massive. In fact the company that provides the off-the-peg software for the Forum, Vbulletin, is now working with us as it's become one of the world's biggest and it allows them to tweak and test their software under huge stress. It's not just the technology either, as with any large community there are rules and issues of 'policing it' to keep it a safe place for all.
    • It pays for me.
I don't want to hide the fact the site is a very substantial part of my income; and I make an extremely good living. I consider what I'm doing to be 'social entrepreneurship,' while the prime purpose is trying to benefit consumers at the same time, without compromising that, I hope the site makes very decent money, like any business (see my social entrepreneur blog).
In fact I'd love it to make me a billionaire, providing it never compromises my ethics and recommendations or cost any users a penny!
    • It's allowed nearly £100,000 a year to be donated to charity.
Best of all it has also allowed me to set up the MoneySavingExpert.com Charity Fund, and now my dream of setting up a MoneySaving Charity to help educate people about consuming and finance is coming alive.

  • There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Does it take a skim back from Quidco etc

Yes i read the above explanation, thats why i'm asking the question as it felt to me that it had been written to waffle on and explain nothing and plays heavily on the charity side of things.

I'm just curious what kind of level of income spouting a load of financial common sense actually generates.

And as its pushed on the charity side i'd like to see how income is divided. Would it be fair if the company behind this took out 5 mil in profit ans passed on 100K, you are told nothing on here.

I think it's the tone of your questions that are getting peoples hackles up. Using words like 'take' and 'skim' imply something other than less than honest.

I would much rather have seen your post entitled 'How much does Martin Lewis earn a year from MSE'

Whatever he earns he has done far more financially for the man/woman in the street than anyone in the government.
