    Hi Sue ?
Well ,apologies to the poster who kept mentioning the oxygen, in 10 hours it will have used 4.1 kwh which is a bit more than 1p an hour that the installer said it would be, obviously there is nothing I can do about that.
Shall I start a new thread " Can't get under 26 kwhs per day ? lol
    Bev

Well, if that's constant at 4kwh in ten hours, that's almost 10kwh a day.

I don't have an Owl, but my monitor is pretty accurate, about 5% over the meter.

Can I ask , which monitor do you have and does it give you a total kwh used over,eg, 24 hours?
If so, I think I need one of those.

5 watts rather than 5 kWh(i.e 5000watts) is more likely!!

I didn't mean the microwave and oven clocks would use 5KWH! :p I meant that the 0.46 reading from the Owl would multiply up to 5KWH roughly over ten hours ... if 0.46 means the Owl is registering 0.46KW per hour?

They'd have to be faulty to be responsible for much of the 5kwh. The 5kwh over a nine hour period is from reading the meter rather than the Owl monitor, as I understand it.

have been reading meter daily for 2 months and ... we seem to use 5 kwh overnight from 11pm till 8am with nearly everything unplugged.

At the minute the owl is showing .46 with the following
40" lcd tv with sky box
    This laptop
    Computer upstairs + wireless router
    2 phones
4 energy saving bulbs dotted about
    fridge
    2 freezers
    bulb in fire
Thats it, does it sound about right ?

I was attempting to equate these two statements, i.e. the overnight meter reading with the one off Owl reading. Does "nearly everything unplugged" actually mean many of the above items are on, as a good number are the sort of things people do leave on 24/7? Hope I have explained my thinking a bit better this time! :o

Hi, sorry to confuse you, no they are not all plugged in through the night
only the fridge and freezers ( and 2 ruddy batteries on charge which I was unaware of) but I did get it down to just over 2 last night by actually taking all plugs out.

  • Dont suppose you have tripped the fusebox so nothing can use electricity and then checked the meter with a torch? If the mains fusebox is tripped that little disc inside it shouldnt move 1mm....

You could try this when you dont need the oxygen

No, not yet, its a digital meter so wouldnt know how lont to wait for it to flash, could be there all day lol

  • Think the thing to do next is get another wireless monitor with a cumulative total to compare to my meter.
Won't rest till this is sorted.

  • Kittywaa, could you read your electricity meter every hour? You can then calculate how much you use each hour. A spreadsheet would help if you have that. This would show if you are using an excessive amount at certain times of the day. The amount you are using suggests to me that there must be a heater involved somewhere, such as a tumble dryer, immersion heater or electric shower.
