  • Ok, what about stuff like your boiler...how old is it. Older boilers use a huge amount. Also insulation like radiator foils and a hot water jacket may help...we found an online shop that we really liked, that really helped, and the guy at the other end of the phone seemed to know what he was talking bout...our energy bills decreased by a lot after that! I'd call them!

WOW! I thought I was being obsesive when I told my wife to stop using less electric!

We use normally around 12Kwh p/day
With the lowest average day at 8kwh and the highest around 17kwh

And I have 2 kids & wife who are home all day. Although I do get on to her about not leaving lights on etc...
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

My meters show that over the last 126 days I have averaged 89kw usage per day.
Economy 7 Night time 9309 kw (73.8 each night)
    Day 1986 (15.7 each day)

3 bed house. No gas. 5 storage heaters and water heated overnight. 2 adults, no kids. Washing machine, dryer, PC. Someone at home 50% of the time. This is my first bill at this address

Before I lump over the best part of £1000 to eon (they estimated my bill at £109!) am I likely to be consuming this ammount.
    Cheers

Night use looks right for five storage heaters.

Day time is comparable to us (family of six in three bed house). We use dishwasher and washing machine most days. Frugal with dryer. Laptops, TVs etc, low energy bulbs. Cook by gas. Before I started my reduction campaign, we were using 20-26kwh a day and now 13kwh a day summer, 15kwh a day winter. Heating, cooking and hot water by gas.
  • Hi, thanks for the comments.
Spent a while talking with Eon. Even they seemed surprized by our usage.
We are not wastrels but I guess over the coldest 2 months (We were snowed in for several days!) We did have all 5 storage heaters at the highest imput.
Seems they just eat the KW for not a great return. Perhaps I'll just disconect them and use them to build a bonfire.
    Cheers

Each storage heater should have a power rating e.g. 3kW. If a 3kW heater is on max. for the seven E7 hours then that heater alone could consume 21kWh each night.

Bricks don't make much of a bonfire but I agree they are next to useless!

Central Heating Pump 120w 24/7 seems its hard wired to never go off

Im just about to order an owl though and see what i can get it down to without going to mad

 Why do you need an Owl Monitor?? You have already identified that you have a lot of electrical appliances switched on or on standby for most of the day. Turn off anything not in active use and your bill will come down substantially, and you won;'t have waster £30 on an Owl.
