On our latest electricity bill it says we were using 37.5 Kwh per day for this period last year (this bill is wrong, so don't know what our current usage is) which seems astronomical compared to everyone on this thread! We are trying to get our usage down, but I'm not very well informed on which appliances are the most power hungry etc,(would guess cooker, washing machine and fridge/freezer?)
We are an all electric household with storage heaters on Economy 10.
I think our hot water must be very expensive, as we have two teenage daughters, no shower and a very old immersion heater which is on far too much despite my nagging!
I am trying to do the washing on cheap rate as much as possible, limit my oven use etc, but we do seem to use an awful lot of power.

My electric meter said i was using 30-45 units a day in my one bed flat, with gas central heating.

Eventually got a check meter fitted and that showed that i do infact use 6 units a day, E-on owe me about £2k

Get your meter checked thats all i can say people.

Is that including all the cost of your heating? Do you know how much (what number of kwh per day) is for heating, and what is for everything else?
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • Sorry to jump in,
I guess huge electric bills will always make people assume they are being overcharged rather than they are using huge ammounts of electric, however.

My meters show that over the last 126 days I have averaged 89kw usage per day.
Economy 7 Night time 9309 kw (73.8 each night)
    Day 1986 (15.7 each day)

3 bed house. No gas. 5 storage heaters and water heated overnight. 2 adults, no kids. Washing machine, dryer, PC. Someone at home 50% of the time. This is my first bill at this address

Before I lump over the best part of £1000 to eon (they estimated my bill at £109!) am I likely to be consuming this ammount.
    Cheers
    David
