Hey all, i am thinking of paying course fees using OUSBA where you pay monthly with a little interest on top.

I wanted to ask that it states: that you may be credit checked for this option of payment

Anyone selected this payment method and were they credit checked?

    Thanks in advance

Sorry can't help with that one preciousb, hopefully someone else can.

How long does it usually take between them saying they've recieved the financial report to a decision?

    A quick google search found - https://msds.open.ac.uk/your-record/ousba/credit-check.htm

Yes you do get credit checked.

    Hi
It depends on when the course starts and the closing dates, I've applied for financial suppport for a course that starts May, the registration closes early Feb, but when I asked them about it, they reassured me if the financial support still going through, not to worry as the registration is mine.
I know it sounds silly, but double check that the form is filled in correctly, all the releveant paperwork included.
Sorry I can't say how long, its just depends on the amount of people applying, the start dates.
If its liable to go over the registration date, ring them and at least if you keep the relevant departments in the loop, there be no prob.

If you get a course grant, this will give you upto £260 study grant (towards extras such as printer ink, paper etc), and also if you don't have a computer, or the one you have got is not up to specification you can also apply for a computer grant, which is think still £250. with that they expect you to use ur study grant to top up the computer, but you buy the computer 1st, then send in the receipt, then get the £250 grant refunded, and also your internt bills refunded fr up to 12 months, as long as your internet is not in a package ie sky tv, internet, phone, as it can't be broken down whereas if you were with AOL or one of the others that you pay seperately are claimable basically once course fees are authorised - it makes the other grants easier to apply for.

Thanks for the fantastic advice all :)

The only concern is that i have a CCJ but if they dont credit check then fair enough :)

I guess il apply anyway and see what happens. If it fails, i will find the money to pay for the course another way :)

I cant wait to start and hope everything gets sorted

Am going to do the Msc in Computing for Industry and Commerce and feeling very excited about it

If you don't get the OUSBA (very very unlikely), do you have Tesco vouchers, as they can be used 2wards OU, think its double vouchers.

I'm not working (do ocassional mystery shopping - all legal) as I'm on benefits and I got accepted. xx

No,it's the course!Nearly everyone on the Facebook group is finding it boring! It's certainly not intelligence related,it just really is truely drab!

Speaking of which,I really should start writing the dull TMA that has to be in today in a minute:rotfl: Only remembered the change of closing changed to 12pm this afternoon.Thank god there is a 12 hour grace period!!

Thanks to everyone else re d101. Glad its not just me but really disappointed in the OU for the course.

Ended up substituting TMA3 because I just couldnt face it and wrote to tutor. Am going to try 4 but already I note people questioning it and its so frustrating!! If I cant get through it, will have to withdraw but am damn stubborn and really dont want to.

Tesco vouchers are 4x value; that's how I pay for my courses.
