    Hey all

    Just out of curiosity

I am thinking of doing a MSC in software development.

My first question is - i have a degree in business management from another uni. Even though it says that no formal qualification is needed for the postgrad diploma do i need any sort of official computing experience. Also what is the registration process. Does someone look at your application and previous education/experiences and determined whether your suited for the course then?

My experience is more hobby based. I dont have any official qualifications in Computing or software development but it is something i know i would be capable of enjoying and doing at a good standard.

    Thanks in advance

I think you will be fine. The Open University in my experience isn't hard to access. For Masters level you will need to have studied at undergraduate level but I doubt it will need to be in computing in your case. On the course description page it should say what the entry requirements are regarding experience. I would have thought your interest in the topic would be fine. Maybe ring and speak to an advisor?

Let us all know if you are going to go ahead with it :)

My MSc required me to send in my undergrad certificate, undergrad had to be in a relevant subject. but it did say that you could apply if you have field experience and no degree, not sure how you would do this, maybe there is a form for you to return?

If you follow the link on the contact us page you can get in touch with someone from registration who will be able to explain the requirements to your particular course and tell you if you're suited to it.

Hello everybody, hope you're all back in the swing of working after the break (if you were lucky enough to actually have one!).

I got an OUSA email last week featuring an article about mature OU students being eligible for a young person's railcard, yet after a quick search on http://www.16-25railcard.co.uk it clearly states "Open University, distance learning and part-time courses don’t qualify". I've tried using the 'contact us' email from the original mailing but i've not had a reply so far (post New Year catch up takes a while :)) so I was wondering if anybody here had applied and been successful or not?

Proud to be dealing with my debts but not proud that they are still the same a year on.
  • hey...is anyone else doing DD101 at the moment? I am thinking of giving it up. I normally love the OU and the other 2 courses I have done have been great but this one is just the pits (however, not fully convinced that its just the course but that I am thick)

I am about to start it at the end of the month/beginning of Feb (officially). My materials have come early though and I have watched "The Street" and found it interesting. After skimming over everything I am trying to keep an open mind as there doesn't seem to be much do do with criminology and psychology.
  • I am doing DD101, don't like it! It is only my second course, but I am doing so badly compared to the first one I did. It suggested I do it as a starting point to psychology but it doesn't seem very relevant, yet!

I want to quit but I cant bring myself to do it, lol.

Oh good luck scuby, some of it is clear as mud! haha.

Send my finance form in too, although I misread it (trying to rush while babies were napping) and fudged the bit about nationality. They are going to think i'm an illegal immigrant at this rate. Sent it in with crossings out here, there and everywhere. They'll be pulling my place at this rate!!

Clear as mud....sounds just like every bit of paperwork and 90% of the lectures from my original full time degree course lol. I'm sort of hoping having done 2 years of a four year Marine Biology degree will help me out with the courses, these will be the first which are in any way related to that so it'll be interesting.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

No,it's the course!Nearly everyone on the Facebook group is finding it boring! It's certainly not intelligence related,it just really is truely drab!
